Old stroker motor + TPI
This has probably been asked many times, but I need advice. I have a 1970 350 engine that is stroked to 383 cubes, and has been built with good internals for nitrous use. My car is a 1992 Z28 with a 350 Tuned Port engine, and I am interested in swapping it out for the serious 383. My question is that I would like to put all of my tuned port injection items on the older engine, and would like to know from people that have done something like this what should I look out for when trying to do something like this? I know people are going to say that the TPI set up will choke the engine, but I have an Accel super ram intake, ported upper plenum, and SLP runners, and I am looking to keep the stock look. What about injector sizing for such an application? I will also need a good chip re-programming, and was thinking of contacting Ed Wright for this when the time comes. Thanks very much for any help. :hail:

Wow, that sounds like exactly what I was going through many years ago when I wanted to put my then NO2 383 into my 92. Like ede said, your compression and cam won't do well with TPI, even higher flowing parts. I would say depending on your compression, aim for 10-10.5 with aluminum heads. As for cam, again depending on what you have, aim for 224 or so degrees duration @ .050" lift.
As for injectors, I would start with your stock 22#ers and tune from there. If you find you NEED larger ones then get them, not first. However, if you must get new injectors go for 24#ers, many people are doing very well with them. I have 30s, just for your info but I know 24s would work well for me.
I strongly suggest you learn to tune your own PROMs. You will learn alot and be able to optimize your own combo.
Have fun

Thanks for the info. The motor is my father's, and he wants me to do something with it. I think I will try to use it. This motor pushed a full weight 68 Chevelle to 7.20's in the 1/8th mile. I need to see what the compression is now, get a camshaft and go from there. Thanks again for the help.

The tpi setup would actually work pretty well with that engine as long as you got a larger set of intake runners. The compression probably isnt that low and there isnt that much of a power gain with high a point higher compression. The motor might not have a nitrous cam either. In any case cam swaps arent that hard especially when the motors out of the vehicle. Do some research on the motor and get back to us.
