Possible to throw on SLP headers when installing engine?
I think I know the answer (no), however just thought i'd double check. I bought some SLP 1"5/8 Headers (shorties) for a thridgen and havn't put the LT1 in, would it be easier to drop the engine with the headers already installed or just won't be possible as far clearance? Thanks.

Much easier to set them in the chassis and drop the motor in on top of them. Some kinds of headers won't go in at all attached to the motor, because they're wider down at the bottom than they are up high near the motor.

I have the 1-3/4 shorty SLP's with no air. I dropped them in with the motor. I did not have the tranny attached to the motor and I used an engine tilt that attached to the engine hoist. It was close on the drivers side, but the engine slide right in. No dents in the headers. One thing that should probably be mentioned is the fact I replace the motor mounts with some energy suspension pieces. I have read that can make a world of difference on how the headers fit. Hope this helps.

I've got slp's on my 383 and they dropped in with the motor. no problems at all. And I also used the poly motor mounts and didnt havent any of the clearance issues alot of people complain about with these headers.

I used the 1 3/4 headers. To clarify I did not have the tranny hooked to the motor. It was already in the car. I have made custom tunnel braces to stiffen the chassis. Turns out they work well for holding the tranny while the engine is out of the car.

I slid mine in with the drivers side attached and the passenger side already in the engine compartment awaiting proper alignment. I can't see what difference mounts could possibly make but I also used Energy Suspension pieces.

mw66nova: I will try and get some pictures up. I do not want to hijack this thread though.
As far as the mounts are concerned, I just thought I would mention it because in the past it has seem to be a point of controversy. Personally I do not have an opinion one way or the other yet. I have not put alot of miles on the poly mounts. Some says it increases the height of the engine in the engine bay, making it easier for the headers to fit.
