what is it costing you for the engine swap? Also could you provide some specs?

Costs wise... I already had the 350, infact I have another sitting in my garage I am thinking about selling, for pretty cheap. But so far i've prolly put about $200-$300 for materials, bead blasting, tools, costs much less when you powder coat and bead blast yourself. .The block is pretty much stock, what really prompted me to do this right now what the fact that my 305 blew the timing gear and had 166k miles on it, and the fact its a 305. the the 350 is a 4 bolt main, from an 87 vette. so where its stock it should still give some good power. My plenum on the other hand has been ported/polished and gave a good 5hp increase, along with my 52mm Throttle Body and AFPR. Right now since i found the exhaust manifolds dont match to the head i'm putting differant head on, but will most likely port them, unless somone has some header they wanna trade for a 350 w/o heads. I'll keep you up to date as more comes, I'll have more specs and pics/info tomorrow.

How much do you want for the other 350? Also who's performing the engine work and installation. I'm considering swapping out my 305.

I'm doing the swap myself, should acttually be able to drop it in today and start re-connecting stuff. as far as my other 350 goes, was prolly only thinking around $200-$300

I got some other misc parts laying around, mostly t/a body parts, but yeah. also so you know, the 350 i'm selling has a edelbrock performer cam with matching hydraulic lifters, never been used., chrome oil pan/ timing chain cover, and i got some chrome chevy valve covers i'd be throwing in as well.

Got an update, i have some heads in the shop being re surfaced and such for my 350 thats going in, but it wont be done till Friday or Monday but anyhow, the heads i had on the 350 arnt all that bad off, they would need a valve job, but if they were put on the 350 the compression would be really good if you had the right cam, with the 305 heads on the 350 should bump it up to about 10:1 or possibly 11:1.

heads are back from the shop !!! YAY, just finished putting all the new brakes on the car, got the spacers and tires mounted on back, heads on going on the block tomorrow, and hoping to drop the block in, prolly wont have everything hooked up, but it'll be really nice to atleast have a engine to look at, instead of the dirty garage floor... Just isnt right to open your hood and see the floor... :werd: pictures coming up tomorrow

OK since you have done some swaps and worked in an engine shop you maybe able to help me with a question.... i have a 91 Z with a 305 TPI engine (roller cam) i can get a 350 shortblock from an 88 truck for 50 bucks and it ran good. problem i see is the lifter guides.. the 350 block does not have the mouting studs for it.. can it still be done or will i have to find another block.. also can i just drop my heads and intake on it and not have any problems? if you can help great. thanks
Don

by lifters guides are you talking about the holes the rods go through the head ? from and 88 truck it should be no problems dropping in. A thing with your heads though, unless you got a cam that can handle putting the 305 heads on a 350 block, then you could run into a problem, because right now your running about 8:1 compression, when you put those 305 heads on that 350 then your gonna be jumping to 10:1 maybe 11:1. Which would be cool and all if you had the right setup, otherwise you can say good bye to you block the first few days driving it. Ifyou dont got the setup to handle that much compression, my 2cents worth would be if you dont have 350 heads already(that would work) then if your on a budget goto a wrecking yard, find some 350 heads from a camaro, firebird, corvette.... and have them machined, i just got mine machined, only cost about $175

Yes i am talking about the plate that is there. just wanted to make sure it wasnt needed.. didnt know if the lifters would turn or not without it. also from everything i looked at...i.e haynes, chilton, online.. it seems the 305 and 350 both are running 9.5:1 compression. The chevy garage seemed to think that the heads and cam from the 305 would work fine with no problem on a 350 block.. if that is not true please let me know so i dont mess it up.. wouldnt be good..

i know that both engines stock are running that compression, but what i am saying is the valves on the 305 heads are differant than the 350 heads, that being with the 350 will cause higher compression. Just double check with a machine shop on that, because i'd hate to hear your engine got trashed after all the work put into it. better safe then sorry ya know never hurts to ask
