Engine swapped, think theres a clearance issue

welp, I have my block in, and I have an edelbrock RPM performer intake with a holley 750 on it. lookin at it tonight with the holley on it, it REALLY looks like the hood won't fit. I have a 91 RS, does anyone else have a setup similar to this that might be able to give me some info on if they HAD to get a cowl hood or how many inches cowl they did need if so?

thanks alot.....I miss my car!

cheers

I have an RPM performer, And if that wasnt bad enough I had to get a carb adapter plate to use my built up quadra-jet, I swore my hood wouldnt close, especially with an air cleaner, But it shut without an ait cleaner, and shuts fine with a K&N dropbase air cleaner....You never know until you try

I had the same set up at one time, I used the moroso drop base with a 3inch tall filter.

and that fit huh.....those drop base filters, do they flow decently or are they crapily? I have found quite a few hoods, most are about 350-399, then theres the lift off kind....can the lift off kind be made to use the stock hood latch and hardware?

Oh also, I've noticed that lowered cars seem to have then egine tilt a bit differently, mines lowered, I wonder if that has anythign to do with it.

thanks!

well, I ran a 12.60 with a 406 sb with a 9 bolt 3.27 and general xp2000`s all with a cheap air filter and the moroso drop base. bolt on hood is the way to go...but I didn`t need one until I put the big block in. If you use a bolt on get the 83 pace car hood struts they were valved for the abs plastic hood and are perfect with the fiberglass harwood I have

If its fiberglass, "good" hood struts are way to strong...I tried to score some worn out ones when I got the harwood but couldn`t wait long enough for one of my friends to replace thiers. Dealer charged me like 38 each on the pace car struts, and I get a discount. About the fitment the hood harwood sent me took the body guy about fourty hrs to trim all the excess edge that it comes with. "bolt on" only means you can reuse your hinges and latch sys. Take a look at this picture it`s the harwood looking just a good underneath as it does on top

are you talkin the gas struts? Cause my struts don't even work lol. Theyve been dead for quite some time now. So should I buy just new struts for it then or what? Also, where do you get/make the little air thing you got there for the cowl hood (looks like its made outta aluminum?)

thanks again guys, youve all been a big help!

Used struts should be perfect for a glass hood I never had the chance to try them but I`d bet they`d work, as far as the air pan, it`s made from 18 gauge alumnuim sheet, got it at a hardware store, used my moroso lower lid to attach the sheet to and cut the side from 1 piece and spot tack it all the way around. I sealed it to the hood with a trunk seal off a hatch back ford probe(a last a purpose for that lousy car!)heehee . so that seals off all engine heat and the mighty demon only sucks outside air!
