My engine swap in progress!!!!
My engine swap in progress!!!!
Finally, I started to remove the old and tired 3.1L with a new
GMPP crate motor from Jeg's. It's the Ramjet 350. I also decided
to swap in a T-56 for the heck of it. An auto street car gets old
after a while. Anyways, the V6 is out, engine bay is cleaned,
prepped and all wires removed from engine compartment that
went to the ECM. Amazing, I am now down to like only 2 dozen
wires from like 8 dozen! Even though the Ramjet has it's own
wire harness, it's so easy a 5 year old can sort it out!
Some of you may think it's a big deal to do this, but honestly,
it's pretty easy! It only took me 2 weekends to get up to the
point where I am now ready to drop in the motor and trans.
Just have to sort out some more wiring and splicing here and
there. Those motor mounts, not that hard! Only took me 1/2
hour to remove them. Swapping in the T-56 pedals was harder!
But that's 90% done. I should have the motor in by either
tomorrow or some time next weekend. Depending on my help!
Here's a pic of the motor:
Note: that's a 1991 300ZX motor behind it. It's a 3.0L twin
turbo. It's getting new turbos, intercoolers, you name it, it's
getting it! He's estimating around 500 REAR WHEEL
HP!

Me, on the other hand, about 300 RWHP.

I don't know yet. But I will find out soon enough! There's a
GM performance mag that has a detailed article on a 1991
Camaro RS with a Ramjet 350 and still retains a stock hood.
If it's modified, I don't know. But I have been told by a fellow
member here that has a Ramjet 350, says that hood will not
clear without modding. But he also told me that I needed
a different pickup tube for the oil pump, and that was
But needing a different oil pan, however was true. If I do
need some slight cutting of the crossmembers in the hood,
that's fine for now. But later on in the future, I plan on buying
a 4" cowl induction hood. Camaros look totally bad **** with
one!

Custom is as custom does. ( if that makes any sense!)
