If you are really serious about this, give a sponsor at the top a call and discuss it with them......

They can give you an exact price on exactly what you want

As a rule of thumb take the value of your car and times it by 2.......Then you will get the MINIMUM amount you will need to spend in order to get this done.....

How much do you have?

from a DIY price range of about 5-7k

or a vendor done range of 7-10k

More with new speed parts..

It takes alot, Lt1s are cheaper but depending on the level of buildup can still be spendy..

My recommends are to make sure the foundation is good first, that means big brakes, suspension, rear end, and chassis stiffening..

then don't forget it is a never-ending search for improvement, if I ever totalled my reciepts I would probably pass out..

EDIT: HAHA, if I take the book price of my car and x 2 I don't even get the all the parts I installed for my head and cam swap

Ha ha, wanna race ? makes a big difference in off the line stability.. don't forget the LCA relocation brackets too..

edit: just saw you ordered them, they work well, and will plant you a bit better, though if you shock the tires they will still break loose like always, but you'll certainly feel them from a slow roll on street tires..

does it have a tranny?

the wiring harness is best to get aftermarket along with getting your pcm reprogrammed, worth the $ imo.. also speartech.com makes the best wiring harnes imo also, custom made to the lengths you want..

without having to get a tranny your swap would run in 45-5500 range..

if you have to get a tranny 6-7500 range

if you get drivetrain and suspension mods 6-7000 if you have to buy a tranny 75-9000

If you pay someone to do the swap 8000-9500, if you have to buy a tranny 9500-11,500

I had it all broken down by cost but the puter wiped my post so I have no time to itemize it all again.. when I say drivetrain mods I mean new posi, gears, rebuild kit, install cost, and aluminum cover. Suspenion mods: subframes, lcas, panhard rod..

I made the cost as realistic as possible with the upper ranges including more preventative maintenance (new sensors, clutch) and the lower range more of a bolt-in and pray cost..

You may also want to replace your whole rearend, depending on what mods you plan on doing. There have been some stock 4th gen cars who have broken their 10 bolt rear ends, and our 3rd gen rears are almost identical.

Engine mods will obviously cost you more than what J's TA mentioned as well - anywhere from several hundred to several thousand more, depending on how far you want to go.

$10K is not the "most" for a swap by any means. It all depends on how far you want to go. I would say $7-$10 for an AVERAGE swap using stock engine, T56 tranny, swap components, and emmisions equipment. If you are in an emmissions-lenient state, probably more towards the low side of that range. If you are in CA or other emmisions-strict state, however, you are going to have to keep a LOT of sensors, swap to a 4th gen gas tank, you will DEFINITELY want to go with Speartech's modified wiring harness (as opposed to modifying it yourself), etc.

One final thing - I would be very cautious about a "complete" LS1 for only $1500. Older, high mileage LS1s by themselves typically sell for the low $2k's. The newer (2001 & later) LS1s which have the LS6 intake stock usually sell with low mileage in the high $3k and low $4k range. The T56 alone usually goes for $1200-$1600, depending on mileage and how hard and long you look for a good deal.

My quick rundown:

$3000 for a low-mileage 2001+ LS1
$1400 for a low-mileage T56 tranny
$2000 for swap components and suspension upgrades
$ 750 for modified wiring harness
$ 750 for extra emmissions equipment
$1600 for good used 12-bolt or 9" rear end
$1600 for bolt-ons, headers, and cam
$2000 for performance heads and performance valve-train
$ 400 Custom tuning/computer programming
?????? Unexpected problems
?????? Labor
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot of money - you better do a ton of research before you even start!!
