simple question..

i just want to know in your opinions what would be faster... in my 84 Z28..... cuz everyone tells me sumtyhing different..

a 305 with a stock roller cam and lifters and 4 barrell Quadrajet...

or a 350 with a 2 barrell carb and intake.. dont know what kinda cam and lifters it has..

the 305 was out of an 89 Caprice.. and the 350 i dont know..

so im just wondering what is faster..
305 4 barrel
or 350 2 barrell

from what you have shown, use the 305. before you put it in get a nwew cam. and put headers on.

but in that same reapect, you can get the 350 and add new intake carb and ditributor. its what you can do.

if you cant change the motor any, get the 305, if you can get the 350

If you already have a 4bbl 305, just take that intake and carb off that and put them in place of the 2bbl carb and intake on the 350. Then you have a 350 4bbl.

I did just that.

A stock 1984 305 will not have a roller lifter cam.

I think he was referring to that one coming from an 89 Caprice, not his stock 84 305.

personally I would swap the heads intake and carb from your current 84 Z28 305 on to the short block of the 350.

give it a cam and headers, get your heads cut for 1.94 in valves, so forth. Unless the heads on that 350 are any good you'll need to check casting numbers for all, but I would take the 350 if it's in good shape.

If you have the 305 and 350, just put all the good stuff from the 305, like the intake, carb, etc... onto the 350. Then you got something nice to play with.

Okay, another dumb question: What "305 headers" do you now have that won't work on a 350?

I guess I'm a little slow...

Let me try to decipher this one. I think what he's saying is that the headers on his 305 have AIR tubes and he doesnt want to use them because of that fact.

Big deal. If you really dont want AIR tubes for some reason, cut them off and plug them.

oops i think i messed that one up, hahaha

yeah headers are easy to fix, minimum you go down to the plumbing shop/hardware store and get a metal pipe cap for the A.I.R. inlet on each side, better would be cutting them and welding the holes closed, going farther by smothing the inside of the primary. any way going back to what air adam said use the top end of the 305 on the bottom end of the 350 and use the headers with modification to the A.I.R. inlets that you dont like and hey there we go. and since you have really three motors, including the one in the car, take a look at each acesory and pick out the newest or best looking of each part, i.e. water pump, ps pump, ac(if desired), use of vbelt set up or serpentine belt set up. wish i could play mix and match at my house now would be a good time to change motor mounts and tranny mounts too. since they are off.

this will prolyl sound stupid.. but what does the a.i.r. stuff for?? i mean any specific thing??.... so your saying cut the wires and plug the main where all 4 wired for each side come out? and i can use the regular headers on the 350?

Air Injection Reaction - emissions reduction equipment. It puts extra air into the exhaust to aid in the completion of burning any remaining hydrocarbons, and extra oxygen for the conversion of CO to CO2.

Headers that work on a 305 will work on a 350. Plain or frosted, doesn't matter.
