swap to SDPC Vortec 350
whats up guys I haven't posted in a while. I know a few have swapped a SDPC vortec 350 into their cars. I'm wondering if its worth the cost.
Heres what I have planned:
From SDPC:
SDPC 360 HP Vortec 350 TPI
EGR Installation Kit for TPI Baseplate
From Summit:
TransGo Shift Kit for GM 700R4 Transmission
From Spohn:
LCA Mounting Hardware Kit
LCA Relocation Brackets
Tubular Chrome Moly LCAs with Polyurethane Bushings
Panhard Bar Mounting Hardware Kit
Adjustable Chrome Moly Panhard Bar with Polyurethane Bushings
Eibach Pro-Kit
Koni Sport “Yellow” Shocks&Struts Package
From SLP:
Intake Runners 1985-88 Camaro/Firebird SBC
Gaskets, Intake Runner Set
Bolt Kit, SLP Intake Runner
Fuel Injectors, 25 lb/hr
From fastchip:
Custom Tuned PROM
I don't know if all that stuff is worth it. I know I will have at least 4k to throw at the car, and the engine will be at least 4k shipped to me. Thats why I'm worried if its worth it or not.
What do you guys think?
Also, if it is worth it, once its all said and done, what do you think she will run?
by the way, I already have SFCs.

I think you'd have a good running package.
Whether it is "worth it" - you're the only one that can really answer that. It's a pro/con evaluation comparing other possible choices. If I was doing a Vortec-headed TPI crate, that's the engine I'd use.

Skip EGR kit
I have done the SD V350TPI. Good engine, but skip the EGR kit. It is a lot of trouble to add to the headers and Ed at fastchip will program around it anyway. He will program EGR to think it is always on or off, I can't remember, but I do recall thinking I did all that work and don't even need it. Also, I had to do some milling of the intake manifold for the oil pressure gage to fit and trial fit your distributor cap to see if it rotates without the cap screw interfering with the manifold. I broke a distributor that way.

Oil Sending unit
That is a great idea. Can you send information on the part numbers you used and a wiring schematic. I have a 1987 that has stock sensors and wiring.

I put the cigar shaped oil sending unit in the side of the block above the oil filter housing and plugged the old style sending unit hole at the back of the engine behind the manifold. I dont know what kind and what year ECM your running but you can install that style oil sending unit. It has 3 terminals one for the oil guage, one for the fuel pump and a ground. This way if it is not reading any oil pressure it automatically shuts the fuel pump down.
