heads and casting numbers
What heads could I use on a 1992 block, people talk of 083"s
but what is the realcode numbers on them
but what is the realcode numbers on them
083 is the last three digits of the iron 350 TPI head casting number. All the numbers that come before the last three are useless for figuring out which head to use. You can really use any head you want on a 92 block....

A "ZZ4 intake has a conventional SBC intake bolt pattern and angle.
A 083 head that came form a L98 TPI motor will have the center two bolts at a different angle on each side. you can
elonggate the center bolt holes on a ZZ4 intake and use washers under the bolt heads.
Vortec heads require a "vortec intake"
Early pre 1968 heads don;t have the alternator bolt holes in the ends of the heads.
TBI swirl port heads are not worth using for performance.
LT1, LT4 heads will not work on a conventional SBC without mods to the water cooling holes on the decks.
Some of the 70's era smog heads are not worth using 882 624 993 etc.
A 305 head will bolt on but requires larger 350 sized valves to make decent power.
