LS series??/

Yeah, im doin a drivetrain swap on my 88 GTA. I want a 500 horse fuel injected engine....auto tranny and a better rear end. This Car is going to be used as a every day driver, and i want about 20 mpg. Im lookin to spend about 7000 on the project....give or take a grand. Another thing, i have the digital guages...what do i do about the guages...and the computer. I was kinda thinking i could buy a cutout LS1 from a C4. Will the auto trans fit under the trans am? next question, i know there are alot of them, can i just use a 4th gen trans am rear end? what will that do for my suspension in the rear? alright, that's enough questions for this post. If it's in the wrong place im sorry.

Peace BROTHA!

I don't think you will be able to do an entire swap for 7 grand and make 500hp, alot who are doing plain stock LS1 swaps have around 7 grand in the swap alone, not including any aftermarket goodies.

You can use a 4th gen rear, but the tires will stick out 1" further than a 3rd gen rear, plus the 4th gen rear is the exact same as the 3rd gen, just 2" wider, same 7.5 10 bolt rear.

yeah, i talked to a mechine shop today and the guy told me i'd be better off keeping the same set up i have. He told me he'd stroke it to a 383...keep the tpi fuel injection, and just hone it out. he'd do some work to the heads and i'd be pushin 500 horses. So, that'll cost 4000 for the labor and parts

this is a perfect example of the stereotypical dreamer car guy.

i want insane hp
but its going to be a daily driver that i want good MPG out of.

i want the corvette motor.. (in this case, a LS1 from a non LS1 corvette C5s had LS1s\LS6s.. C6s have LS2s\LS7s...)

i want to know if "insert question about generic info easily learned with BASIC research, not even detailed question, here"

ahh, MrDude, be nice.

If you want a 20mpg, 500HP car, your looking at a C6 Z06, and last time I checked, they are way over 7 grand.

Maybe you need to thing this through a little more, what do you really want? Do you want to go really fast, or do you want a dependable daily driver with gas milage. Without a lot of money you can not have both. I've spent 10 grand so far on my LS swap, and I'll be happy with the gas milage and performance it gives me.

I like the post about how this guy has no idea what he is doing. I promise you this that if cooters garage builds you a 383 with a tpi intake you will be lucky to be at 350 horse for the simple fact of the intake and for 4 grand how much are the heads gonna flow? then when you do get your 500hp tpi, how the hell are you gonna keep your stock 700r4 behind it. All i have to say is goodluck and do a little research.
