Carb swap...Hood fitting?

Hey,

I have a '91 bird, and everything won't fit. I have a Q-jet and Edlebrock intake.

Does anyone, who did a EFI to Carb swap, still able to fit everything with their stock hood?

Without cutting or going cowl that is.

Thanks,
Franchise

If you didn't go with an intake that was the same height as a stock 4bbl intake that was on the 305's, no it won't fit, espeically if you had to run a carb adapter plate for the q-jet to bolt to the Edelbrock. There wasn't alot of room to begin with.

Yes, i swapped and didnt have any problems with hood clearance. I have the edelbrock performer intake with a Holley carb. I was told that if i were to buy the performer rpm manifold that it would create hood clearance issues due to it being naturally taller. Which manifold are you running? My air cleaner doesnt even contact the hood. I believe that there is almost a half an inch between it and the hood. -Bob

I have an Edelbrock Performer. With the Q-jet on it is extremely close, the adapter is mayber 1/8" thick.

What size air cleaner did you use?
Was it the Edelbrock street....it is the foam one?

Thanks,

Something isn't adding up here. No adapter is required to put a q-jet on a Performer intake. And, 1/8" is too thin to be an adapter.

You will need a drop base type air cleaner. Even the factory stock air cleaners are drop base.

Thats not necessarily true... A friend of mine is running an Edelbrock RPM air gap, demon 4bbl, and 14x3 drop base in an '86 Trans Am and it all fits just fine under a stock hood. Thats quite a bit taller than a stock 4bbl setup.

Edelbrock 7101 (Performer RPM Air Gap)
Holley 3310
and a K&N 60-1280 air cleaner should fit under a stock hood.
