new 350 tpi needed
new 350 tpi needed
I am currently looking to put a 350 tpi into my 86 Iroc. The problem is that I can't find an engine (reman or new) that will put out around the 300-350 hp range and still be affordable. Also, is there any way to use an 89-92 tpi without having to switch to SD. Any and all help is appreciated!

'90-'92 were SD. '87-'89 were MAF, although the '89 system did not have the cold start injector. The only differences between the '86-'88 LB9 and '87-'88 L98 TPI were the injector size and PROM tuning.
Where have you looked for reman engines? What do you consider "unaffordable"? Where are you getting the 300-350 HP numbers, and by what rating method? Are you assuming TPI upgrades, or that the factory stock TPI needs to produce those numbers?
Would you consider this http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/...28105220451.68 affordable? You'd have to add the core charge and shipping to the $1043, but they'll work with you on your power desires. May come out to more than $1043, but unless you have a 350 core with good heads, do as much of the labor as possible yourself, and get sweetheart deals on the parts & machining, you probably aren't going to do much better trying to build one yourself. I spent about $1300 this past summer on my shortblock - although I probably paid too much for the core, but the machining was less because of it - but I wanted it to be right when I got done.

Five7kid, I've got to say that you definitely know what you're talking about. Keep up the good work, you're definitely one of the most knowledgable people on here. Thanks much!
