Stock LS1 botom end

How strong is an LSI botom end? Can it hold 600 or so hp?

How do you plan on making that 600hp? The LS1 is pretty damn stout and there are tons of ten second cars on the stock bottom end. There is a guy in our club that ran 9.5's in the 1/4 with a twin turbo LS1 on a stock bottom end. He ran the motor for two full track seasons before he pulled it (didn't need rebuilt but he wanted more cubes). With that amount of power you are still taking a risk though. The bottom has proved itself to be stout but it was never desinged to handle that much power in a reliable way.

Well i have a 671 laying around and i am planning on building a nice truck as a weekend toy. I am trying to decide weather to build a blown gen 1 sbc or a gen 3 sbc.

I was also thinking about a 454.

the gen III is a pretty stout motor. I think it could handle 600hp. plenty of people are running 500+(N/A and boosted) with stock internals. I would change the rods and pistons, I've seen people with 600+rwhp on the stock crank

A 671 won't work with a gen III motor.

yes. BDS makes a kit now.

it will take 600hp, but for how long.
pistons and rods and the stock block and crank willl hold plenty more than 600.
stock is just a time bomb.
