On the pad in the block at the front of the passenger side head (usually behind the alternator), you'll find some numbers stamped in the pad. They're normally hard to read because they're full of oil, grease, dirt, paint. The numbers are specific to that block. There will be 2 rows with numbers and letters. The first row is build date and suffix code which will tell you what kind of car the engine was in and when it was built. The second row is the last part of the original vehicle's vin number.

Get those numbers and I'll tell you about your engine.

The casting date of the block can also be read from the markings on the back of the block.

Those are good

1FR100432 is the last part of the vehicles VIN number. If it doesn't match your car, the engine isn't original

V081CDF

V = Flint engine plant
081 = There's a digit missing. The first 2 digits are the month. The next 2 digits are the date
CFD = 1985 305 Roch E4ME 4bbl carb. LG4 150hp. Found in B F G body cars

Looks like the engine is a 1985 LG4 305 with a 4bbl carb rated at 150hp or at least that's what the block originally was.

A Rochester E4ME is a 4 barrel computer controlled carburetor with electric choke. Standard equipment on LG4's and L69s.
