New guy in need of swap advice!!!!!
Hey guys, I just recently converted to third gens and one of my ride is an RS with a 305 TBI. Here is my problem....... I would like to swap in a roller 350 I have no other use for at this moment. But I have to be careful with California smog restrictions and also would like to preserve as much of the stock induction due to cost. So can I use the TBI system on the 350? Will I need bigger injectors? Bigger throttle Body? And the most important...... Will I pass a California sniff test?

AFAIK...... you can use all the same stuff, as it's mostly the same, it just won't run as well as it could, being that you're using 305 parts. honestly, a lot of the time the 305 and 350 piece are the exact same. I'd just swap it in and run it. it won't produce anymore smog than a 305, and the cali guy won't kno the difference, and neither will the computer.

Thank you!!!!! That is the most straightforward and simple answer I have heard from any one I have spoke with! Also thanks for the quick reply. I know that I could get alot more power from the TPI set-up but really cant afford it right now. My 5.0 is tired and needs replacing like yesterday. One more question if you don't mind. Will I notice a difference in power? I know I should But how much? Thanks again. I think I will start the swap this week-end!

I think you might notice a little difference.... more *****, better throttle response, more power down low and from a stop, maybe. but it won't be night/day, i don't think. and TPI is fine, but I'd do this one step at a time.

Thanks again. The motor I plan on using is accualy 355 roller motor w/ newer style aluminum GM heads. It has a slightly more agressive cam than stock and forged pistons. It was the original motor out of my '89 Z-28. The rings were tired and I got a sweet deal on a roller 383 from a buddy at a local speed shop due to a customer never paying it off. So the 350 layed around for about a year until I decided to start a mild rebuild to put in my daily driven RS. But alas the rings and valve guides in the 305 have seen better days and it is time for either a re-build or the 350. And until now I thought that there was alot more work involved in swapping for larger cubes, like mapping for the comp, fuel pump, pressure regulator, and possibly the larger injectors. So I thank you again. You have saved me from spending unneeded money on a daily driver!

no problem. if this is a beater, then I'd just put it in the car and run it. like i said, it'll have more guts, but it'll live a long and happy life under the 305 stuff. the cam will help you a lot as far as power as well as the aluminum heads. this thing won't make 500hp, but then, it will probably get 22-25mpg and stay alive a long time.

It is my daily but I would not call it a beater by any means..... I have over $3000 in paint and body alone! It is the same yellow off the Z-06 vettes. Numerous suspention upgrades, full audio system, 18" chrome wheels, full exhaust and an IROC hood. The interior is compleatly redone. Other than the motor being tired this thing looks better than off the showroom. I just don't need an *** load of power in. Just alittle somethin extra for the fun of it. Got to re-build it, might as well use the motor I have already! As for high horse, That is what my '89 Z-28 is for. Week end toy! Blown 383 Tuneport with the works. Dyno said 489hp and 456tq @ the rear. Wont keep traction for ****!!!!

amen. I have the T/A in the sig... nitrous is gonna be my power adder. I'll eventually upgrade the cam to a roller, but i want to drive the car first. it's benna WIP for 3 years now, and it's time I drove the **** out of it.. i can't wait. good luck with your project. I think you'll be happy with the results.
