Another LT1 comes to life

My LT1 is running! Started up on first try in front of an audiance. The hybrid power steering didn't even leak ( I hate plumbing). 1987 V6 auto car now has 1995 LT1 T56 Moser 12-bolt drivetrain. Needs quite a bit before I can take it for a test drive though.

Too ugly for pictures. Wires everywhere. I haven't figured out where to mount computer. Anybody mount it over top of the heater blower motor? I'm not sure how much EMF the PCM can take.

Congrats! I'm interested in pictures as well. I'm about 2 weeks from getting my 89 LT1 running too!

1989 Chevrolet Camaro - Travis's Chevrolet "Project"

How did you get the throttle cable working? The V8 TBI cable was way too short, so I'm trying a V6 MPFI cable, which is still a little short. Unfortunately for me, i forgot to pull the 4th gen cable before I scrapped it....

I have round tube headers that I'm going to run, just because the exhaust is custom 3.5" and thats what will be easiest since it came with the car. I've bypassed the heated throttle body, and used the LT1 power steering high pressure line. Just bent the tubing coming from the pump and it reaches. Other than that, pretty easy swap. But its not running yet.

Unfortunately I used the throttle end of the conduit from the 95 to fit the bracket and the rest of the conduit from the 87 V6 MPFI to fit body and provide the longer length. The actual cable came out of the 95 from one of the other cruise control cables that was long enough and fit the throttle body. I made new ferrules for the peddle end out of a piece of bolt and some small rod stock for the second one that limits how far the cable goes in. It was free with stuff on hand the evening I did it. Let me know if you still want a picture of it.
I'm deleting cruise control by the way. I never use it on my GTO, it was easier and mostly because it cleans up the engine compartment quite a bit.

A pic would be awesome. If you could get one of the throttle body that would help out a lot. I'm probably going to have to make a bracket out of aluminum and then do a custom spliced cable like you mentioned. The V6 cable almost reaches, so if I make a bracket and extend the cable I'll be set.

I'd also see how you located and ran everything! You can see mine on my cardomain site.

To splice the conduit get a 1 1/2 inch long piece of steel brake/transmission coolant line that just fits over the conduit. Slide a cable through all three pieces. Slather both ends of the conduit with quick set JB Weld or some other 2-part epoxy. Get a small amount on one the very ends and push the conduit together and then slide the steel tubing over and center it on joint. Wipe the excess off the outside tubing (there should be some or you didn't use enough).

Important: Spin (not back and forth) the cable every 20-30 seconds so you don't glue it to the conduit. That's why I like the quick set JB Weld. Its thick, doesn't migrate very far and I don't have to spin for more than a few minutes.

We have never figured out how to extend the actual cable where I work. We always scrounge a longer one and make new ferrules for one of the ends. Sorry if this was more detail than you needed.

I bought either a 91 or 92 tpi cable and it fits just fine with my LT1.

I'm using 92 tpi cable also, had to cut the plastic a little bit for it to fit into the LT1 throttle bracket but works perfect. Cost about $15-20 from local gm parts dealership.

One of you mind posting a picture? I probably switch to that if its only $20.

Ya, me too. I like the stock options. If not, ACCLR8N's sounds fine. I've got an extra cable laying around that I could cut up too.
