Powerglide means no fun to drive, too.

no kidding, a 388 is a .060 over 350, stroked...but a powerglide???? Never, unless it's a lightweight, high powered, high geared car....

Add "drag only" to that list, too.

Sure, 40 or 50 years ago before anyone knew any better. Those cars are still every bit as miserable to drive as a 2 speed automatic could be.

When the TH350 was introduced in '69, they ditched the 'Glide soon after.

My '57 originally had a 'Glide (the old cast iron version). My wife's '62 Biscayne had a 'Glide (also cast iron). My dad's '67 Impala had a 'Glide. My grandfather's '68 Bel Air had a 'Glide. I put a '65 'Glide in the '57 when I put in a hybrid 302 (what a dog combo!).

I've driven plenty of Powerglide-equiped vehicles. Trust me, you don't want a 'Glide in a street car. A high power/weight weekend warrior, fine. But not something you drive regularly on the street.

oh trust me, I wouldn't take a PG daily, but they were made for more than drag race only, at one time.

if doing a motor with decent power I would rather have a turbo 400 unless you have the cash for a built 4l60 (700r4) or 4l80e. better drivability.
