Sure, 40 or 50 years ago before anyone knew any better. Those cars are still every bit as miserable to drive as a 2 speed automatic could be.

When the TH350 was introduced in '69, they ditched the 'Glide soon after.
My '57 originally had a 'Glide (the old cast iron version). My wife's '62 Biscayne had a 'Glide (also cast iron). My dad's '67 Impala had a 'Glide. My grandfather's '68 Bel Air had a 'Glide. I put a '65 'Glide in the '57 when I put in a hybrid 302 (what a dog combo!).
I've driven plenty of Powerglide-equiped vehicles. Trust me, you don't want a 'Glide in a street car. A high power/weight weekend warrior, fine. But not something you drive regularly on the street.

if doing a motor with decent power I would rather have a turbo 400 unless you have the cash for a built 4l60 (700r4) or 4l80e. better drivability.
