You can use any 2 wheel drive TH700R-4 that was behind a V8, or from a 4.3l V6 (such as Astro van). If it doesn't come from an f-body, you'll need to swap out the tailshaft housing from your current transmission (easy to do, 4 bolts and you're done).

You found some shop, or some person to do this swap? Do they know what they're in for? Does this have to be an emissions-legal swap?

I would be concerned about having someone do this swap for pay. They either are going to charge an arm and a leg (more than the car would be worth when complete), or they don't know what all is involved.

This guy my Dads friends with is a mechanic that does this stuff for a living, but the car doesnt have to be emissions legal. In minnesota they dont have emissions anymore, i would probaly attemp the swap but dont have the garage or the tools.

So is he doing this as part of making a living, or on the side?

If on the side, it would really be good for you to be there getting your hands dirty (or at least getting your nitrile gloves dirty).

Yeah, he does this stuff on the side, he put a motor in one of our other cars, yeah i would mind trying it. I was just worried that i would buy the wrong parts for the car and find out im stuck with them.
