ECM work without smog stuff on new motor?
I'm puting a new motor in my 84 TA, my question is if i remove all of the emissions stuff, will the car run right? I wanted to put a intake on the car but it require the removal of the EGR and i might as well get rid of everything else. Any help would be great, i wanted to get this car running within the next week or so since i bought it with a bad motor.

The 84 had a pretty simple computer system so with a carb and distributor with a vacuum advance the engine should run ok. Your tranny will work but I think you'll need the computer hooked up for the lockup torque converter to work if you want it to.

You're barking up the wrong tree, I'm afraid.
"Emissions" doesn't have to mean "low performance". Leave all of the sensors plugged in. If you really want, you can leave the A.I.R. and EGR off and unplugged, those won't cause the computer any problems. But, you do need the other sensors plugged in - engine coolant temp, manifold vacuum, oxygen sensor, barometric pressure sensor. Those are all needed to run the computer controlled carb and distributor.
See sig, then ask me how I know these things. . .

The EGR sensor removal or disable will probably cause a code 32. That's the only one the computer looks at.

I really want to un-clutter the engine bay and possibly lose that parasitic sucking of a fraction of a mpg and a hp or two, and this way I could get a cool intake manifold!

I guess you missed this part of the post:
The AIR tubes and EGR setup do not hurt the engine, especially a lo-po TBI, but they do a great job of cleaning up the engine's emissions. Just leave them on there until you change the engine over to drag race duty and take the car off the street. If I can get 375 HP and 450 TQ with 20+ MPG and still pass CA emissions, so can you.
