My engine swap thread. 305-400 sbc swap.
Its been almost a year since the car hasnt been running, Im finally starting to see some progress.. Heads have been off.
I have a hoist ready to go. Heads are at machining. I need an engine stand, Oilpump, rocker arms, gaskets, then to do the work on the 400.. but so far
Just un-bolted the starter. Got cleaned up to ask how I unbolt the T/C and now I have to go somewhere, Ill continue with the next 3 days( 5 day week end for me )

To unbolt the TC, you will need to remove the inspection cover underneath the car. It may be plastic sometimes aluminum.
The TC is held on by 3 short bolts. Fit a socket on it with a rachet, use the end of a jack handle to use as a breaker bar. Break the bolt lose but do not remove it.
Take a very sturdy perferably forged flat tip screw driver into the square slot on the boss for the bolt. Use the screw driver to move the TC until you meet the next bolt. Break the remaining two then remove them.
Good luck.

There is a thread on the highest point on the bellhousing (you can get to it with the tranny in)
then you can use the water pump holes, just make sure you bottom out all bolts and it will work fine.
If you can figure a way to run the chain through the head bolts to the block that would be best. Or simply bolt the heads back on with a few bolts very tightly and run the chain through the assortment of accessory holes.

I cant get the flex plate to rotate, I got one bolt out, I got to one but when I used the wrench the flex plate moved with it. I also broke the bolt for the crank.

If you want to free the engine just pour brake fluid in the cylinder bores. When you wake up in the morning it will be free.

Did you try pouring brake fluid in the cylinder bores? It will work, I am telling you.

Too late for what? You got the pistons out of the block already? Does the motor turn by hand?
