L98 from a Corvette

Hi guys I need some information....
I am buyng I L98 TPI form a Corvette and the guy said comes with a 700R4 too ...
Well my car is 305 TPI 1987 and the person said this is coming from a 1987 corvette as well....
How bad is tho put this thing there?
Any good advice before I buy this engine to check how good is it? Everycar motor and transmission has his catchs....so I am here to learn a bit....

Well I am the most familiar with that 4 cilinders swaps but I this car for 4 years and is time to upgrade it.

Thank's for the help

The tailshaft housing of the Vette tranny won't have the torque arm mount provision needed, but the one from your Camaro will swap over to it.

Try to get the ECM as well. Not necessary, but better than using your 305 computer.

IIRC, the accessory mounts are different in the Vettes too, which means, finding a pair of F-body brackets.

Re: L98 from a Corvette

fuel rails are differant, egr and manifolds are differant too. you would bassically use the long block and injectors. swap all your old stuff back on top and get a tpi 350 chip

Re: L98 from a Corvette

You cant use the F-body manifold and EGR and expect it to work, there's no heat crossover in the heads. Thats why its plumbed into the exhaust like it is. You'll either need to eliminate it, or hook it up to your exhaust somehow. You will need to swap the fuel rails from your car, the entrance/exit for the Corvette is in a different location. Use your accessories as well. May as well keep your harness, just swap the chip from the Corvette.

The heads respond well to porting, if you feel like doing that. A mild cam swap wouldnt hurt either.

Re: L98 from a Corvette

The oil pan will be different. as long as the vette motor doesn't have aluminum heads the egr will work fine. I think the egr gases were pulled from the exhaust when the vette got aluminum heads.

If it's from an '87 Vette as claimed, it will have aluminum heads and the external EGR piping.

Re: L98 from a Corvette

Thought 87 was the year the convertible got the aluminum heads only. and the hard tops got them later.

All I've ever heard is all '86-1/2 and on were aluminum heads. But, I certainly haven't heard it all, especially about Vettes.

Re: L98 from a Corvette

The first generation of aluminum L98 heads started mid year 1986 from what I understand. All 87's had them. That is the older head though, the 113 casting wasnt untill 88 or 89.
