73' sbc to a 89' tbi

im picking up a 350 to drop in my car sometime this week. i wont be putting it in my car for a while b/c i need to buy a lot of stuff for it to work right in my car. im getting it from my friends dad so i trust him. he told me it had 260 hp from the factory and he knows that b/c someone looked up the casting or w/e for him. it is a four bolt also so it was out of a truck. my question for starters is will my 305 manifold and tbi system work on this 350. he told me the 350 was a shortblock so it wont work but im just making sure. i plan on switching to carb anyways if it doesn't work. whats a good carb/intake combo that would be good for the street with decent power. i was thinking a 650 holley would be good but i have no idea about intakes honestly. i dont have any emmision stuff on my engine right now except for egr...how do i get rid of that? i have headers and full exhaust already so im not worried about that but what else do i need to put it in my car? fuel pressure regulator i know about but thats about it.

Everything on your engine will fit that shortblock, except the flexplate and the oil dipstick. If you keep the TBI though, a few things like the knock sensor should be changed for the 350.

A shortblock is just a block with a rotating assembly in it. Basically an engine with no heads or anything above the block.

That's not a short block then, that's a long block. The center bolt holes on your intake are at a different angle, but you can elongate the holes to make them fit those heads.

If you're going carb then you don't need to worry about the TBI manifold, just get a carb manifold for the earlier intake bolt pattern.

With a drill bit and/or round file. You may be able to find a machine shop with enough moxie to do it for you.
