Ok guys i have a question. I have found a 454 with a muncie 4 speed.the 454 has not run for 2 years but i have a friend that is a great with motors and drove the truck before the guy that has it now got and my friend says he can get it running no prob and the guy says if not then i dont have to pay him till it runs or i take it back to him.The muncie has a new pressure plate and clutch. The guy wants $500 and from what I,ve heard the tranny is worth that, but can I put it in my camaro and if so is it reasonable....my friend said he would help me with the swap and frame baceing.So...................your turn let me have it.

Re: 454 can it be done.......

well technically its not legal b/c a big block was never a factory option in a
3rd gen but o well im going to be doing a 454 soon myself. as of now i need to get it rebuilt. i am doing a automatic swap instead though instead of a manual. oh and has for how easy it will be, well it all bolts up fine, its a tight fit for the distributor, some have had to make dimples in the firewall because of it. also headers can require a grinder be taken to the k-member, a tubular k member would be great for this swap (thats what im doing). the distance between the radiator and water pump will also be tight but with a short style water pump the clearance can be slightly increased. If you use a short intake you may be able to use the stock hood although some short of hood scoop i.e. a cowl induction hood would make your intake choices grow, and also should help keep your underhood temp down. hope this helps some. their is also a sticky on top of this forum that may be of better use. good luck

Had one in my old '86 Iroc, absolutely no trouble at all. Check out some of the stickies in reference to swapping in a BB engine. As far as being street legal, your car is an '85, and although I'm floored at just how fast time flies (as I remember your car when it was new), it's now considered a classic. If your willing to drive her only a certain amount of miles per year, consider different insurance options, some of which would not only allow for you to run a big block, but to literally run open headers, on the street....

Re: 454 can it be done.......

open headers depends mainly on where you live some states dont care but municipalities within do. like Las Cruces, NM. as far as the difficulty level just remember that space is limited in our cars but they do fit. A slow, steady, and smooth aproach is your best bet, if you get in a hurry because the itch to drive it is soooo great your likely to have problems. best of luck and have fun.

Welcome to our forum. I don't think you'll get much response in this thread, it's 3 years old! Good luck!
