Re: how to start new forum???

ok, so im pulling the stock L69 out of my 83 Z28 and I have a 350 that is coming out of a 89 gmc jimmy, it isn't the stock engine tho, im pretty sure that it is a gm performance parts motor. That motor should bolt up to my 5 speed tranny right? is there any problems with this swap that I should know about?

Re: how to start new forum???

The 87 and up small blocks with a one piece rear main seal use a different flywheel than the 86 and older engines with the two piece rear main seal.

I guess you should check that first.

Next, you need a flywheel for an 82-92 Camaro for the style of engine you are running. For example if you have a newer style engine, then you need a flywheel and clutch kit for an 87-92 Camaro with a 305 5 speed. If you have the older style engine then you can use your old 305 stuff. Everything will bolt up fine if you do the flywheel part right.

Welcome aboard!

Re: how to start new forum???

so if this 350 is a one piece rear main than I cant use my clutch and flywheel from the 305? I've got a Zoom high perf. clutch in it now.

Re: how to start new forum???

You can probably use the clutch but not the flywheel.

Re: how to start new forum???

You can use the "flywheel" as long as the truck 350 has the small clutch manual tranny. Otherwise, you will need the 87-up 153 tooth small flywheel. Some of the trucks came with the 12 inch clutch setup that has a 168 tooth flywheel.

Re: how to start new forum???

the 350 is coming out of an automatic, so I have to get a 87 up 153 tooth small flywheel? would I have to get a dif starter or anything else to go with that? will my clutch be compatible with that?

The first thing you need to do is find out exactly what type of engine it is. If the original engine has been replaced, it could be most anything. Replacement using an older engine type is pretty common, especially if it was a cheap GM Goodwrench replacement engine (more likely than GMPP, I would say). It could be 2-piece rear main seal, in which case your 305 stuff would bolt right on to it.

You will need to install a pilot bearing. Just getting a new one would be easier and make a lot more sense than trying to pull the existing one out of your 305 crank and reusing it.

If the 350 is one-piece rear main seal, then get an '86-'92 Camaro/Firebird V8 flywheel. It will be 153-tooth, and your 305 starter will work on it just fine.

Don't forget the pilot bearing.

Re: how to start new forum???

ya that does sound familiar now that it is a goodwrench motor, i knew that it was gm,i can't be sure tho until the motor is out. I am checking the compression in it soon then pulling it out.

Thanks, Brody
