Some of this information might not have anything to do with the swap but here goes:

Car: 85 Z-28 Carbed 305 5-speed
Swapped 87 TPI engine/tranny(5-speed) Sucessfully
Now im swapping in an 88 TPI engine/tranny(auto)

My 85 didnt have an IP connector harness(from fuse box to ECU) so i wired in the one from the 87 from the first swap.

Now i have everything from the 88 GTA TPI/Auto in the car but i did not swap the under dash harness. I beleive there is some sort of neutral safety switch or basically the switch that will not allow the car to turn over if it is in gear. im not sure if the wire needs to be grounded that detects if the car is in park or not. im sure someone has to have been through this before.

 

they are larger purple and yellow wires. They need to be a open or closed circuit, im not sure which. If you have a meter, find the wires and check for continuity, if you have it, open the circuit, if you don't close the circuit and see what happens

 

Do you mean to look for these wires under the dash or under the hood next to the master cylinder?

like i said, i did not change the interior harness so i dont know if the wires are going to be the same or not inside the car.

 

if your car was a 5 speed to begin with there was a plug on the old pedal assembly under the clutch pedal that control the neutral safety circuit and there should have been on on the trans. Find these two, you must have taken them off when you swapped parts. and like i said, it should be a set of larger gauge purple and yellow wires.

 

you could be right. i might have disconnected the sensor when i took the t56 hyrdaulic setup out of it. ill have to check it out. thanks for the help!

 

Well i found the wires and checked them, both connected and not connected and it didnt turn over. so i am not sure whats going on. could it be possible that the pins on the 88 harness are different than the 85 interior harness??
