No air from vent - only defrost
Hi,
I recently swapped a 305 engine with a crate zz383 and am in the process of rewiring everything. I am not using the ECM anymore but left it in place for a few of the gauges. With the engine swap I decided to do away with the AC. Now when I turn on my heat, I only get air blowing out of the defrost and not from the front or lower vents. I still have the original wiring harness in place. Is there something I need to connect? The car is a 1984 trans am.

No way! I hope I dont get attacked by some rabid rat.
It looks like the control switch is electronic and not mechanical thats why I figured the problem was caused by not reattaching the AC and the wires that were attached to it. Damn car had like 5 miles of tubes and wires. I dont know how I ever thought that car had power. I guess it did for its time...

You're missing the vacuum line that goes from the engine to the EVAP controls inside the car. I'm not sure where it is on an '84 f-body, but on my car its a plastic line inside the wire loom that sticks out by the rear passenger side of the engine. Its supposed to connect to a vacuum port on the intake manifold.

I see the plastic line but no longer have a vacuum port to connect it into. Is there a way to bypass this? Is the vacuum port powered? As I recall, I was able to switch from vent to heater to defrost with power from ignition and the engine off.
I also eliminated the smog pump - actually everything from the original engine.
Thanks.
