The LS-series of engines are arguably the best available now. I wouldn't put a carb on one, though.
But, "better" is impossible to answer, because use, budget, down-time, etc., aren't included in your criteria.

Lowest I've seen is $2500 with auto tranny, and that was an oddball. $4k for LS1/T56 is more typical.
K-member is around $500 w/o a-arms. Conversion mounts are cheaper, but you'll need to modify the front crossmember if you keep AC. You still need a rear crossmember. Headers are $800 for the "standard" set. Good custom exhaust work is expensive. You need a different fuel pump. Gages don't work as-is.
It can be done cheap, but to do it right is going to run you more.
Understand I'm not putting down the LSx swap - after all, I have one in progress.

I sisn't mean put a carb on a ls motor but what i meant was do i continue building my 407ci stroker or transplant an ls7 t56 combo? i want the car to be a street, roadcourse, drag car. my budget is non existant, and my down time will be as long as it takes to do it right!!!

Old thread I know but the thought came to me, Do you guys think putting a LS series engine in a 3rd gen is kinda the same as putting an ls1 in a non-GM or is it acceptable??

Two years later and your still thinking about it? Putting an LS motor in a 3rd gen is competely acceptable. Why wouldnt it be? There are a lot of people on here that have that swap.
