hey hows it going everyone
i will be swapping a fresh 350 into my 92 rs and ditchin the dog 305.
i just wanted to get some opinions on what kind of numbers i might get out of it.
heres some more info:
350 block bored 60 over(361 maybe??)
2 bolt main
mild speed pro cam with above average lift
roller rocker arms
flat top pistons
orig crank
062 vortec heads
holley 600 or 650(not sure which to get..the car is daily driver and weekend warrior
)
headers
and complete with 3 73s and 2 1/2 flowmasters
no sure what else ill get for it at the moment...but thats the for sure parts right now
what do you all think powerwise?
if i could make at least 240 ponies id be a happy camper
thanks!!

Re: performance opinions
Awfully vague on some things there. If you just want 240 hp at the crank, then any cam will do. If you want 240 at the rear tires, then we need to get more specific on some things. First, this build doesn't need roller rockers, those can wait.
Next, flat top pistons and vortec heads puts you over 10:1, so you can't use too small of a cam, or you'll have issues with detonation. Then you need to pick a cam and an intake manifold before trying to choose a carb.
What rpm range are you wanting? Stick or automatic?
Nail it down a bit.

ok thanks for the info!
its an automatic and daily driver and occassionaly will see some track time.
i drive it quite a bit
heres the cam ive got:
CS1105R
1800-4400 RPM Range
283 intake/286 exhaust Adv Dur
Duration @.050 209 intake/216 exhaust
Valve Lift .435intake/.455 exhaust
Lobe C/L 112
should i go bigger?
...maybe thumpr cam bigger??

Re: performance opinions
Way wrong cam for a 10:1, Vortec-headed 361. You have several good choices, but I suggest you strongly consider investing in COMP's 12-560-4.
That should prove a safe, powerful choice that'll work well with everything else you specified. If that seems too wild, my second choice would be COMP's 12-239-3. It may do better in fifth, but it may want premium unleaded all the time, and octane booster on really hot days.

Re: performance opinions
so i checked out the cam you suggested
"COMP's 12-560-4"
and it says it was made for nitrous setups...
is that the one you were talking about??
i might have the numbers wrong
are you saying i just need a cam with a good size lift to it?
and if i got a bigger cam, what intake and carb do you think would work best for my setup?
sorry for all the questions
thanks for the advice!!

Re: performance opinions
It would be a good nitrous cam IF you had heads with decent exhaust ports. Vortec heads have really lame exhaust ports, they need a lot of extra exhaust duration to make good power. This cam has that. You also need to look at the intake closing point in relation to your compression ratio and gearing, and you need to match the amount of overlap to your combo. Not only that, but power is addictive, and you probably will someday want to try a small shot of nitrous.
Yes, this cam will put you well over 400 horses at the crankshaft, depending on your intake manifold and carburetor, but it is a good match for everything else you listed.
You seem to want a good performing combination in your car, since you listed headers, 3.73 gears, the 361 and so on. If you don't want this much power, either change heads or pistons to allow the baby cam you chose.

Re: performance opinions
thanks for the advice again!
that sounds like the best route for me
like i said, i dont want the fastest(you guys probley dont here that alot..)
i just want a good performing engine i can drive back and forth to work and to the track
i was also concerned that its not a 4 bolt main,
but i guess it will be alright
ill check that cam out and let you all know when i run it
need to get this build done so i can get started on the big block
thanks!!

Re: performance opinions
Why the hell do you care if it's a 4 bolt block or not? Factory 4 bolt is actually a disadvantage. Weaker main webs. Even the DZ302 was a 2 bolt, until mid '69. hell, the 375 HP 327s were all 2-bolt. And that was before the large journals. Be glad if you don't have 4BM.
