Engine Decoding, completely lost
Hey guys,
Just got a 1985 Pontiac trans AM with 350 TPI and t700 transmission. Transmission has kevlar internals, twin transmission coolers and stage 2 shift kit, engine, not too sure whats been done.
The engine isn't the original, and I'm trying to find out what its from and what year,l but I can't find any details on it. I'm from Australia so I don't have access to a GM or pontiac place i can ring and find out.
The egnine number is K0907FSC
I can't find the FSC suffic anywhere, basically all i found out is the K is the plant the engine was made at.
If anyone can help me find out exactly what this motor originated from I'd greatly appreciate it.
And Kudos America for making one kickass ride.

I can't find a FSC suffix code. Are sure it's even a 350? A casting number in this case can determine if it's a 350 or a 305 block.
Recheck the stamping. Many times it looks like something different than what it really is.
Checking for different possibilities, I see a TSC. 1982 350 from a truck. FEC may be a possibility but that's a 1957 283 so we rule that out.
There's also a possibility that it actually is FSC but a newer block that isn't listed in all the older listings.
K = St. Catherines, Ontario engine plant
0907 = Sept 07
You'll have to find other numbers to determine a year code.

Re: Engine Decoding, completely lost
So does that mean the engine would be 2007 350chev specs? or does it just mean that it was built in 2007 but built as a 1987 design?
I'm guessing it'd make sense to be a 2007 engine as no-one knows what the FSC engine suffix is, but it just looks a bit old for a 2007 engine. Further more, would the TPI fit on a 2007 350chev motor fine?

Sorry. That was misleading.
Sept 7. The year code isn't in that number sequence.
What are the other numbers stamped in that area?

Re: Engine Decoding, completely lost
my engine block has the identifying codes on the back of the motor, where the bellhousing flange is.the number which id's the engine block is on the drivers side of that flange and the number that id's the engine build date is on the pass side of the motor.the pad that is under the alternator I think id's what actuall car the motor was installed into.

Re: Engine Decoding, completely lost
ok, no luck with any more engine numbers, but maybe this will help narrow the engine/ tpi setup:
It has a intake manifold#1006615
injector#5235301
distributor with remote coil#7011
any leads?

i dont think i'll be able to get any other numbers off the engine or heads without removing the engine or putting it on the hoist.

Re: Engine Decoding, completely lost
Success! Found where the engine was purchasedfrom and its a 290 HP, 86-95 MODEL, STANDARD HEADS, 350 TPI Chev.
Now for the important questions....
Is there a better intake for TPI that i could use to increase performance?
Is there a better set of compatible heads someone could recommend for more power?
Is there a cheap alternative to the stock ECU I could use to eliminate a problem with that?
Is the current distributor with remote coil the best option or should i change it to something else?

From sites like this
http://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-cod...s-suffix-5.php
but as mentioned that one was not found in any online reference
The motor the OP identified as his is a GM replacement crate motor
You have a better chance of narrowing it down by looking at the block casting # in bellhousing area,
Does yours have a partial VIN on the block pad where the FSC is stamped to show it originally was installed in a vehicle and not a crate engine?
