350tpi to 383stroker?

I have a 87 ta with a 350tpi, everything is stock in my car, I'm planing of getting rid of the 350 and putting a 383 stroker. What would I need to change? Would it cause me any damages?

Re: 350tpi to 383stroker?

you probably don't want to keep TPI with a 383 since you'll be severely restricting airflow...

Re: 350tpi to 383stroker?

I can tell. A 383 is pretty much and upgraded 350; a bored and stroked 350... Honestly, I would start out with the small stuff. Don't jump in with the big boys yet. Learn your tune up routines and the bolton's. Like headers and exhaust, cold air intakes, different intake manifolds...stuff like that... once you can take apart the top part of the engine, then you can get into hardcore upgrades like different heads and camshafts and valvetrain components, then you can get into engine swaps...

I forgot to mention the only thing that I have is a flowmaster exhaust, I don't know what to put next.

Headers. Shorties will work well for you.

The exhaust board has a great sticky on it you should look at to see all your options.

The concensus is that the best shorties on the market for our cars are the Hooker 2055's. They include a y-pipe and should bolt straight to your catback. Very nice headers. They have their drawbacks (the collector is a ltitle small where it joins the catback I think), but Hookers are very high quality.

If you want something cheaper, go with Hedman shorties. Tehy have a couple of kits, make sure you grab the one with the included y-pipe if you do.

Cheaper headers tend to have more problems with fitment and quality than more expensive ones, but it just depends on various factors. Hookers long tubes, for instance, have a TON of fitment problems, but I think that has more to do with the huge primaries they're trying to shove into the engine bay for each cylinder. Still very well made.

Dyno Don on the boards also sells siome cool headers. Definitely look into those. I think he pretty much sells Hooker-style headers. Not sure if they're Chinese copies, hookers that fell off a truck, in-house custom jobs or what. But they seem to be well-regarded.

Here are his shorties:

PM him for prices as I dont know what they are.

Expect to spend a weekend installing your first set of headers. You may need to make several parts store runs for things like plug wires and spark plugs and it never hurts to have a grinder, sawzall, and a BFH around. It can be a good bit of work, but if you ever went to a serious 383 or upgraded 350, you'd definitely want to put a set of headers on it. Nothing is a bigger waste than a nice custom built high performance motor breathing through a set of exhaust manifolds and crappy stock y-pipe.

Re: 350tpi to 383stroker?

man i would keep the 350. im getting a iroc 350 from my 87 iroc camaro which only has a 305tpi. but anywase i would keep the 350 and rebuild it or atleast add a holly stealth ram system. she'll give your 350 around a 60hp jump and will still be great at low range and will be lots more powerful at mid-high range. i would also suggest a upgraded exhuast system and a tune. this is going be alot cheaper and is great expecially to start with. also i would add a pro distrubitor, full ignition, bigger injectors, fuel pressure regulator, heads, and nitrous system. this will get u up with new zo6 corvettes but not reccomended that you will beat 1 but a ls3 vette on problem but this is depending on your gears. maybe a cam also. GOOD LUCK

Thanks a lot man! I really appreciated

Re: 350tpi to 383stroker?

yup. I currently have Hooker headers installed on my car. Another side note, it'll make your car sound LOUDER too...which is never a bad thing really...
