502 RamJet
502 RamJet
Hey whats up guys. Im new here. I was wondering what I would have to do to stuff the 502RamJet into an 87 IROC and still be able to drive on the street. Actually I wouldnt mind putting in a smaller crate engine if i could get around 450hp to 500hp. I was looking at the 383 it produces around 450hp i think. Or if someone has something better by all means tell me. please
If you were to do an archive search you can find alot of information on this topic. This question comes up at least once a month.
As for 450 streetable hp, I have/had (it's dead now) a 450 hp 402BBC in my 87 RS. I couldn't imagine trying to drive a SBC with that kind of power on the street. Bigger engines are easier to drive when your pushing the envelope of whats streetable and whats not.

Having a small block producing that kind of power usually means going to about 6500 rpm. On the street you usually don't go much over 3000. A big block can easily produce that kind of HP and at a much lower usable rpm.

I too have been looking for a streetable SB crate engine, and I have found it. This is the motor I am ordering in a few weeks, take a peek. By the way, I am getting both the options installed too. Should be good for about 475 to 500 Hp, depending on cam.

The biggest problem with fitting a big block is the headers. I used the Hooker Super Comps and they were not even close to fitting. There are a few other manufactures out there that might fit better.
All the info you need for the swap is on my page.

After I got my Hooker big block headers (and I got a deal on them) I saw some Sanderson headers. Just for the ease of installation I'd go with them for a big block street car. The only difference is that they're not equal length headers so they fit a lot easier.
In NHRA Super Stock there is a class with big blocks in third gens. I wonder how they do it because no frame mods are allowed.

Yeah, I had to give up the fight with the 468 I was building, I ended up with $5,000 in just the short block, no heads even. I would have had over $10,000 into the entire setup
So, I sold the short block for $4500 and am now researching witch SB to stick in it, Right now its looking like that 406 crate, and AFR 210's, and the roller setup. Gonna run it carbed until I have enough cash for a Miniram. That combo should get me all the Hp I need.
