TPI engines that put out power...

Since I was in a car accident a little while ago, I now have around $1,500 in insurance in my hands from the Rustang that hit me. I can get the damages repaired cheaply by a friend of the family. This way I have some money left over. I was thinking about using the money to get a stronger engine. Right now my 305 is running good and does not have problems at this time.

My question is which engines take the TPI system that I have on my 305. I do not want a carbed engine. I have emissions here and it has to pass the sniffer. I'm looking for 300+ at the wheels. Basically, I'm looking for a 300+ TPI engine. I remember seeing an engine with TPI putting out 300+ NA somewhere online, but I lost the link to it. I know the TPI would seriously choke a big engine, but I cannot afford to get a miniram or something like that right off the bat. An engine with TPI that has an enormous increase over the 305 that will run somewhere in the 13's is what I'm basically looking for! Any suggestions at where to look would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I really do not like NOS. I've never tried it, but I really dislike the fact that I have to refill the bottle often and I consider it cheating. Someone beating me with a built engine and I just press a button and beat the other person just seems unfair. Everyone around here has NOS and it's absurd.

I'm willing to spend a little beyond $1,500 for an engine, but nothing more than $2,500 for the time being. Maybe I'll get a more expensive engine in 3 years. Any other suggestions?

Hmm... that sounds feastible. How long can I expect my stock 305 TPI to last on 9 psi? Any negative side effects in having a supercharger?

Thanks.

I just looked at Willie's site about the supercharger on his car. It got him into the mid 14's - high 13's and he had some mods done to it. It seems to be a lot of work to get a supercharged 305 into the 13's. Willie had to rebuild his 305 completely to get it into the low 13's. That's pretty good, but I don't really have the funds to do that since I'm guessing it costs around $4,000? I, sadly, do not have the experience of pulling an engine and rebuilding it. I used to have someone in the family that was able to do it, but he died. The more I think of swapping engines, the more discouraged I get. I had some faith in myself that I could tackle the job. But seeing others here, it seems to take months to complete an engine swap and they know what they're doing. I can have an engine swap, but I can only allow a week max to be without a car. I remember seeing a 1989 IROC 'vert somewhere on the web that has a 383 engine swap. That dude was also from GA. I'd love to have the power pulsating under my feet.

Dang it, I guess I'll just get a transmission/oil cooler, eibach springs, bilstien shocks, bigger IROC rims, and a paint job. But I really want to surprise people with an IROC 'vert that blows the competition's doors off.

hey i did an engine swap in my S10 in about 4days, yeah i know i worked on it for 3-4 hours a day but still. i only replaced the stock 4 cyl but it would have been easier in the camaro. i know where everything goes in the camaro, sensors and stuff.

and if you build the engine outside of the car on a stand then you can swap it in a weekend if you work hard and have a friend and a cherry picker. and look into a set of heads and cam and port the stock TPI, you will be looking into about 2000 there with $1000 for the 305 SR torquer heads $300 headman headers + ypipe, and 250 flowmaster cat back, plus cam and accesories, that wont take long, and you can do it with the engine in the car, but it is not suggested.

and definately get some suspension work if you dont get a whole bunch of engine stuff. or just save the money till you get more.
