Could this be original

I have just bought a 88 camaro, With IROC logo's. everything seem's to be there to be a IROC except it is a TBI engine. I have never heard of a TBI setup being stock in a IROC. Could anyone tell me if it is possible to be factory or not. Thank's for any help

I have never seen a TBI IROC, only carb. and TPI, but I'm not saying they don't exist just that I have never seen them.

Check your RPO codes to see if it is a real IROC

Its possible. I cant remember what years (pretty sure 88 is one of them), but I have read more than a few times that the base engine in some years was the pathetic LO3.

Ask on the History board, they can tell you.

base engine on an 88 IROC was the L03 TBI, carbs were dropped in 88, and tpi wasnt standard for another year i think, but tbi 305 was base in 88... check the eigth digit in the vin, if its e then its stock. RPO was fza-1 for the base IROC in 88

If it was the base engine then woouldn't that be for a regular camaro? The IROC's should have a 350 TPI, after all thats more or less what made them IROC's. I would be really suspicious. Run the VIN throught the decoder on thirdgen's main page. That will tell you for sure.

88 was a year that they did that in the Trans Am's as well. As far as it being pathetic....be nice! I prefer to refer to it as under modified. I have one in my '92 and with the proper modding it will get up and move better than most in my area.

It was the base engine for the Iroc package in 1988. I'm pretty sure of this info and Willie I think can back me up on this.

You out there Willie?

I thought it was the suspension and other features that made an IROC an IROC. I've heard of people on this board with 1988 T/A's and IROC's that have the LO3.

The LG4 was the base motor in IROCs until the L03 came in 88 then in 90 I think the base motor was bumped up to the LB9. As for pathetic L03, remember the LG4 is pathetic too.

I know this a really OLD response. I'm looking at an '89 IROC 305ci and the engine is an LB9, so the first year they had them would be 89

How do you mean, first year they had them?
The LB9 was first offered as an option in 1985. What they said was the base engine wasnt an LB9 until 90, unless you have a window sticker or some other sort of evidence to prove otherwise.

and the L03 isnt that bad of a motor. used to mess around with a girl that had an L03 IROC-Z that was totally stock (i think) and i smoked my friend in his carbed 305 '81 camaro but hes also runnin an open 2.xx rear. he got smoked by an acura today too so i guess that isnt sayin much for his car.
