Inline 6 into the 3rd gen?

Will the I6 from the chevy trailblazer fit in the engine bay of the thirdgen. I've been getting some wild ideas lately, and this is the engine that i want. It makes 275 hp, and the torque is around the same.

stick w/ a hopped up 350... helluva lot easier to install and cheaper. Probably make more torqe and power, too! (i think the I6 will probably be too long, not to mention how radically different it probably is)

Well, considering it uses a 4l60e tranny, i'm sure that a T-56 would fit fine. Also, my plan is to put low compression pistons and run Twin Turbo's. I want to make the 3rd gen a turbo car. The reason i'm thinking I6 is its strenght and ability to handle boost.

well, I'd try and just get some measurements first to see if it will even fit. if it will, go from there. if you turbo it I think it'd be sweet as hell, but not so without that. good luck if you decide to go for it, anything is possible, dont let anyone try and tell you its not. just depends on how much money and time you've got.

The I6 is too high. It would stick out past your hood. Although not in door cars, I6 engines are used in some Comp Eliminator dragsters. Looks and sounds really wierd when you see it running.

You could always throw in a dodge slant 6. It might fit under the hood. That's why whey made it on a slant.

if your gonna turbo a 3rd gen, stick with the 2.8, 3.1, 3.8, 4.3 or the 2.5 iron duke. Forget the new vortec straight 6, it just won't fit.

The new i6 is sooo cool. I would trade my lt1 for 1. It is just asking for turbos. Its got variable cam timing and 4 valves per cylinder. and its blessed with a strong bottom end. Add to all those great things that inline motors are known for great lowspeed torque.
If its to high, add a cowl hood.

block

the engine is a aluminum block with sleeves don't think you want to mess with the turbos. seen the sleeves come apart in stock ones alredy. not a pretty sight also the oil pan has the front diff going through it and I dought it would fit with the cross member there.

there was a guy on LS1.com that had a turbo LS1 Baja truck. he could NOT keep the heads sealded no matter what he did. He was looking for a bare LS1 to have custom machined with extra stong and long threads for the head bolts. He could have saved a lot of grief by sticking wiht the Gen1 or Gen2 sbc's or the turbo 3.8L

I'm sur that their is something that could be done about that. John Lingenfelter has a ls1 powered twin turbo s10 that runs low tens or high 9s . He has obviously figured out how to take care of the problem.

yes now it has been done and figured out but the point was it was a custom one off thing that ran into a bunch of problems and wasted $$$ before it was done right.

I saw one of those I6 engines on a stand, its friggen huge. I dont think it would clear the crossmember and hood in a thirdgen.

As for the LS1, theres an iron block too, some are heading that way.

ya the iron block is heavy though with the 6 bolt mains. Its more like a Y block than a V block. He said the iron (vortec) LS1 style block was 80lbs heavier than the LS1 block and thats why he didn't want to do it. A LT1 is about 65 lbs. heaver than a LS1.

Yeah I always forget that 3.4L. Hey the 2.5 isnt a turd engine, GM apparently put together a 275hp version of it. Stick a Ford or Chevy Turbo and intercooler on it and you have one quick little engine.

80lbs? Thats not even enough to worry about if reliability is becoming a problem.

Hmmm yah I guess they wouldnt stand the turbo that well. I just thought that the MPFI would work well with the turbo.
