Which intake is best for a daily driver?

Since I have my motor out of the car to install my torque built 385 and new 700-R4, I was wondering which intake would be better: Stock 4BBL L-69 305 HO or an Edelbrock Performer RPM? The motor has a 224/224 duration cam,9.5:1 compression, full length headers, Edelbrock 600 cfm carb. I want to drive this car everyday and it will rarely see 5500 rpm. Really the only racing I do is the occasional street fight, so I don't need a lot of top end. Ive read that these OE manifolds are excellent in the low to midrange but so many people are using the Edelbrock, its hard to argue with the success. Thanks for your help.

Definately the TPI. Great low end and good gas mileage.

yeah, on the smaller 305 and possibly the 350 but a 385 it would run out of air SO FAST. I would say a RamJet or SuperRam for FI or a nice carb setup.

Not to be rude- but TPI was not a choice here. Perhaps I was unclear. I am not asking you guys to reccomend an entire INDUCTION SYSTEM. I am using a 4 BBL Carb and I want to know which manifold( Stock 305HO or Edelbrock Performer RPM) will work better for my set up.Sorry about the misunderstanding.

i noticed the tpi thing myself. i would personally go with the edelbrock. may as well have a good intake setup while the motor's out & it's easy to do. besides, it doesn't hurt to have the upper rpm breathing just in case. although the edelbrock intakes already look good, you may think about having it jet-hot coated inside & out. if i'm not mistaken, it would really smooth out all the passages. just some thoughts...good luck

i wouldn't recommend using a 305 manifold on a 385 You're gonna want a better intake, and the performer is a pretty damn good intake. Is a 600cfm carb enough for that even?

What hp are you looking at? I would go with the RPM intake and maybe even the air gap if I didn't have to worry about visual inspections. 600cfm does sound small. My friend is running a 327 with 370hp and a 600cfm but it's too small. We ran it with a 750 (too big), had a big delay but was faster up top. Definatly go with a 750cfm, they're everywhere and should feed a mild 385.

If this has to fit under the stock hood, your decision may have already made itself for you. It will have to be the Performer. They're not too bad, I have one on the 400 in my car, it does starve the motor above 4500 or so though. Don't make the mistake of using one of the "drop-base" air cleaners, and a tall manifold; by the time you drop the breather lid low enough to make up for the extra manifold height, the air horn will be so close to the lid that you will have created a net loss due to the restriction.

600 CFM is too small for a dual plane intake. The pulses of air flowing through a small-runner, small-plenum mainfold greatly exceed the average predicted by the straigh VE vs. CID & RPM equation. You'd get much better results with a 750.

I have a Victor Jr. manifold on my 383 and I am happy with low end power as well as top end. Look at my specs . I need to get my car to the track and see what it officially runs. It sure feels strong.

I never experienced the dramatic low end power loss so many have claimed.

ok got an opinion on this one.....id go with the RPM ...BUT.....check for clearance..anything much taller than a performer...(not a performer rpm)..and ill bet youll run into air filter clearance..I love the air gap rpm look but ill bet youll be in my situation..(victor jr on a 350) and before i removed choke horn it was abt half an inch away from my hood..so no filter for me!!!!!

I didn't have a problem with clearance on my 86 Z.
