Any shops specialize in cutom car build (502/T56 into 3rd gen)?
I'm looking for a shop in CT, MA or NY to install a 502/T-56 into my GTA. I'd like to do it myself, but don't have the time. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!
I know its a little far, But Im in Fredericksburg Virginia and would love to tackle a project like that. I work in a two bay shop, and when a car is stored inside, is very seldom messed with.
email me for details

The engine bay will require a little banging to fit that 502 in. I would probably go with a Tremec TKO tranny instead, but even that might fry behind the 502.

G92Joe - Try Cartek in New Jersey. They're about a 2 and a half hour drive from my House in CT and they do some amazing work. They're mostly into EFI but They do all sorts of things. Http://www.cartek.net
No a N/A 502 shouldn't eat a T-56. The T-56 is the same trans that backs the V-10 in the Vipers, and is rated for 450lb-ft of torque. Blue502 is planning the same swap and I'm going to back my 396 with one. QwikTrp is backing his blown 468 (600+ HP) with the Tremec. One of the major drawbacks to the Tremec and the Richmond is they are only single overdrives where the T-56 is a double overdrive. Used T-56's are cheaper too.
I'm more interested in what he's planning on doing for exhaust? I know of a set of Hookers for sale cheap, and a custom shop that is making the headers, and I've been wondering if the Flowtech blockhuggers and huggertoobs would work.

Thanks for the help guys.
Actually, I'd consider subcontracting the job to anyone who has done the swap themselves and is technically competent with the fabrication required. I'd provide the car, motor & trans. Whoever did it can keep the 350 tpi & 700r4, maybe trade my 89Iroc too. If anyone is interested, send me an email & tel #, we can talk more.
Thanks, Joe.

There really isn't any fab work required, if you choose the right exhaust it's a straight bolt in. You can go with truck manifolds and not have to worry about it.
Email me, fst86z@cascadecrew.org and we can get into the details. I can also give you the optins on different things and places to get the parts.

Isn't a 396 still a small block? Anyhow, is it possible to modify a T5 to handle 500 Hp or would I have to drop a different tranny in? I hope to someday put an engine in my car that can do this and I want to stick with stick shift... What exactly would I need to do to the T5 to get it to work?
No, the 396 is a big block, as are the 366T, 427, 427T, 454, and the overrated 502. I seriously doubt that the T-5 could take a beating from one either. If you had to it would all bolt up but if you really got on the engine it can and will eat one for lunch. Yes the T-5 could take 500hp, it will not take the torque that usually comes with that kind of power, it's only rated for 320 ft-lbs and a mild 396 is capable putting out well over 400. If you really want to keep a manual trans the T-56 is one of the more cost effective solutions availible.

Wasn't there a 427 small block? I think there was/is. In fact, I'm looking for a brand new aluminum small block 427. Can't find anybody that makes or sells them though.

So were blocks made in only 2 sizes? Big and Small? I thought it was based on displacement. Oh well guess I learned my 1 thing today... I have seen 427's advertised as small blocks, I'm pretty sure they exist.
Edit: I've heard of people using T5's with 400 Tq... but they had to rebuild it every 5000-10000 Mi... lol

there is a 427 smallblock available, in the aftermarket it is available from world products, i beleive it is called the motown 415 in crate form, but you can get it as a bare block, which will accept a custom crank that will push the displacement numbers to 427 , the 415 crate motor by itself is very impressive, i seen it dyno tested at 540 hp@5600 and 520 ftlbs@3500

Joe,
Email me and I'll give you the names of two shops in CT about 20-30 miles from your house. Competent, experienced and one of them is chassis dyno equipped.
We can talk, too, if you like. Commom swap amongst my group. IMO, 500lb-ft (which you should AT LEAST have if you're gonna put a 502 in there) will eat that tranny unless you are just looking to do good burnouts. I'd go with another, but that's me. There ARE better trannies out there, obviously, but you gotta pay for them. Not too much more, maybe 500bucks or so more. Full traction with pedal to the metal at 80+mph will eat that tranny, trust me.
