I have never done a swap like that. I did go 350 Olds to 400 Chevy. I would say, no. A 455 I think would be a little difficult, and expensive into a Camaro.

It would be a lot easier and cheaper to drop in a BBC 454 than a Buick/Olds/Pontiac 455 or even a Caddy 500. There's no conversion kits available, the transmission won't bolt up plus lots of other fabrication and modifications to do. A BBC is a direct drop in with very little modifications.

There's nothing saying you can't do it, just be prepared to do a lot of custom modifications to get it to work.

Car: Non F-body :(
Engine: Pontiac 301
Transmission: TH350
Jim Butler Performance in TN sells kits to put Pontiac engines in third gen F-bodies. Motor mounts, headers and transmission adapter plates. Or if you want to, my recommendation is to swap to a THM200-4R transmission and you can use the spohn crossmember/TA mount to do this. The 200-4R is a "universal" bolt pattern case which will bolt to both Chevy and BOPC.

Beware that this is not a swap for the faint of heart, as you'll have to do wiring changes to accomodate the driver's side starter, possible different radiator, no TPI available, etc...

You'll also have to do exhaust fabrication, etc. I realize that you're already familiar with swaps since you went from a v6 to your v8, but realize that a 455 is a large stroke torque motor, and you're likely to also engage in driveline breakage without beefy (and spendy!) upgrades here.

Good luck and let us know if you decide to tackle it!

If it's a Cadillac then it's a 500 CID engine. It will not bolt to your THM400 without an adapter plate (Jegs or Summit, around $60).

The Cadillac engine can be built extremely strong and produces GOBS of torque. However, you'll likely have to build custom headers if you don't use power-robbing manifolds as well as fabricate your own motor mounts, etc...

This is a swap to undertake if you enjoy doing this sort of thing, not if you're just looking for cheap power because this one won't be cheap.

Putting a big block in your camaro or firebird is possible, but requires some fabrication. This photo is of a project firebird my friends brother is working on... It's a Buick 430 ci big block (block is dimensionally the same as a 455).

If you're doing it because you think that getting the motor for cheap will make it a good deal, you're making a mistake. You could ge the motor for free and still end up spending far more to jam that other one in there than you would just rebuilding your own, especially if you have to do any work to it to make it long-term worthwhile.

On the other hand if you have some fabrication skills & equipment and truly want something different just to be different, then I suppose anything is possible... just don't think that a $300 motor that doesn't fit your car is some kind of a cheap way to (maybe) a faster car.
