Re: Timing Chain question

Aren't the roller blocks like 1988 & up? Wouldn't any double chain listed anywhere for say a 1992 Camaro be appropriate? If so, just about every auto parts store has one.

Re: Timing Chain question

It seems like all the billet timing gears are for non-roller blocks..

Re: Timing Chain question

I'm lost - are we looking for chains or gears? Or both?

Billet? They are hidden under a cover, and drowned in oil - who cares what it looks like, as long as it's strong enough to do the trick?

Re: Timing Chain question

Look at the applications of those double roller chains. It says Will not work with factory roller cam.
Factory roller cams have a thrust plate that takes up space. search Summit and you can find a AC Delco single roller for factory roller cams.
Is the OP working with a factory roller motor because his 85 was not a factory roller so we should know he is not working with a stock motor.

Re: Timing Chain question

These don't have the roller block disclaimer:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CLO-9-131/

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CLO-9-145/

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-7844/

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CLO-9-130-10/

I just used the Summit search for "timing chain" and then narrowed results for Chevy, V8, Double Roller, and 1991 engine (which should be roller).

I know I bought one from my local CarQuest several years ago for my 1990 TBI motor (which is a roller block) right off the shelf.

Both. And I agree.. they are hidden, but I have a billet cam and a two piece billet cover so might as well just buy the billet gears also. If you knew what kind of person I was you would understand that Im a nit-pick-f$#!, it sucks but I cant help it. As for the motor its a summit 383 roller block going in a 85 iroc.

Re: Timing Chain question

Oh - I understand the nit pick - I myself am as **** as my wallet allows, and trust me, my wallet allows more **** with my car than anything else. I'll gladly (and have before) eat bologna sandwiches for every meal for a month if it means getting enough cash scraped up for the part that I want.

Kids are hungry? Nonsense, they ate once today at school!
