solid engine mount ??
hey guys was wonderint the benifits of solid motor mounts vs poly mounts vs stock and how does it affect drivability on a daily driver or cruiser Ive never had anything but stock and im curious on what does it help or do? as i know at the moment the engine will rock to the passengers side almost an inch and is that hard on parts or what not? i know in the front wheel drive world solid poly mounts help with traction just not sure in high torque and rwd the gains you would get from it and do they ratle the crap out of you ?

I have poly engine mounts and recommend them for a sbc street car. You can still see the engine movements but definitely stiffer than rubber. Solid is a whole different ballgame. I've been in 1 streetcar with solid and I remember every panel in the car was buzzing from vibrations. I wouldn't recommend that. Race car can definitely use solids. Helmet on your head muffles any vibes... haha

For a street car, poly mounts are much better than rubber. I wouldn't recommend solid mounts for a street car. Too many unwanted vibrations will be heard or felt when you're trying to drive in comfort.
My race car doesn't even use motor mounts. I have a front and mid motor plate to hold the engine in position. The transmission hangs off the mid plate so I don't even use a tranny crossmember any more.

I went from Energy Suspension poly mounts, to solid mounts and in all honesty notice no difference. I was actually kinda upset. Mine isnt a daily driver and has a decent sized solid roller and I wanted to feel it. To tell the truth, my car idles rediculously smooth. They also look much nicer and free up some room for some long tube headers.

Re: solid engine mount ??
I use solid mounts on my BBC street driven competition car with mixed results. Yes there's some vibration, but does'nt effect the drive. I mean, the steering wheel does'nt shake, nor does the dash or gauges. You would think that with my car having a fully tied 8 point cage, and 2 pair of sfc's that it would vibe more but its really not that bad at all. Maybe some of my vibe is absorbed or transferred by all the structural stiffening going on?

Re: solid engine mount ??
The only possible disadvantage I have heard of with solid mounts is block distortion. If the engine is pulling hard against the crossmember, the two center cylinders on the torque side can distort badly enough to lose ring seal.
