V8 swap wiring
V8 swap wiring
im in the process of a v8 swap putting in a 377 where a 2.8 once sat in an 88 camaro its moving along pretty good removing all the air heat and wipers this will be strictly a street/strip car to be driven on nice days with that said i would like to be able to utilize the normal factory ignition switch and retain tail lights, head lights, interior lights, turn signals, and radio
i know every thing is fused in the fuse block but im having a hard time figuring out where the fuse block receives power from. there is a constant 12v i know that but where is it located i.e. does it just simply run from the back of the fuse block to the battery?? i would say it runs from the bulk head if anything but not sure if so does anyone know what color it is and where it is located in the bulkhead ?
as for the ignition 12v source that i guess goes to the steering column to the ignition switch: does it receive power from the fuse block as well?
if i can figure out where the constant power goes into the fuse block and the best way to run a constant wire i think everything else will function as it should
thanks for the help guys sorry for the lengthy questions just trying to get it all out there

Re: V8 swap wiring
Just do not remove any wires from the driver side wiring harness and everything will work as it needs to. All the driver side wires are lights, gauges, alternator, starter, etc. Leave all the driver side wires alone, reconnect to new motor, and you'll be set.
BTW - most states will not pass inspections, and thus not allow you to get a plate, if you don't have functioning wipers.

Well, YOU said street/strip ... the street part would require plates (unless you like getting tickets).

In Ohio if your car is 25 years old or more, you can get plates without anything other than the title. No inspection, emissions, etc. I have an 82z and never have to do anything other than show my title to get plates for it.
The only time you would need to have your car inspected is if you bought it out of state and this was the first time being licensed in Ohio.

O I C - here, regardless, we have to get a safety inspection yearly - they check lights, horn, brakes, wipers. Basically, it's another NC tax.

In LA we have to get an inspection every year, but that has nothing to do with getting a licence plate. You get the plate when you register car, all you need to get it is a title and insurrance.
