Mark all wires/connectors - it will take longer than you think, and you'll forget where they go.

Put parts in ziplock bags with descriptions.

Take pics of engine as each piece is removed - you can then look at pics later to reassemble.

I wouldn't rebuild a 305 - if I went to the trouble of yanking it out, a 350 would go back in it's place. You can get a 350 TBI motor, computer prom, knock sensor, and injectors from a Caprice or truck, and drop that in.

Re: 305 tbi removeal in 92 rs.

Drain the trans before pulling it with the engine. Youll have to tilt the bottom of the trans newrly vertical to get it out of the bay with the engine and if you do it full of fluid, it pours out the tailshaft onto the floor....Ask me how I know that one

Pulling it is relitively easy, mark everything and put all the bolts/anything you remove in labeled bags. Take pleny of pics of connectors and such BEFORE disconnecting everything (makes putting things back together easier) Throw a lift plate or engine leveler on the top (or chains if you wanna do it that way) disconnect the motor mounts and trans mounts and drive shaft, drop the trans xmember (with trans supported with a jack) and get it out of the way. And start lifting. Youll need an extra set of hands to help manuver the engine. Lift a little and slide it forward, then lift a little more. Repeat while tilting the trans tailshaft down when necesary making sure not to smack anything, and continue until the engine is free and out. If you dont have a longer than normal cherry picker you might have problems getting the arm far enough back in the engine bay. If you take the front nose off it gives you more room. Its only held on with a few bolts and push-ins.

Or use a tranny plug! BTW, Tylenol makes the perfect sized bottle for a plug! AND, you get the added benefit of having headache meds available ('cause your gonna need them).

Re: 305 tbi removeal in 92 rs.

An old DS yoke works just as well, duct tape it to the tailshaft

Just a suggestion, leave the harness wrapped around the engine, all accessories attached, manifolds on, everything together. Removing 1000 pieces before starting puts alot on you to remember
