Fuel Pump Question

A quick question relating to fuel pumps.
I recently swapped a TPI 5.0 V8 into a 2.8 MPFI.
Now it will crank but not fire, but will run on starting fluid.
The spark plugs are dry in the motor.
Could the V6 fuel pump not be pressurizing the injectors and not opening them?
Thanks.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

Your problem isn't much different than my current one: How to get the 2.8 pump to do it's job?
Did the TPI V8 have VATS? If so, that could be your problem.
If not, did you temporarily bypass the oil pressure switch? If not, that'll keep the pump from pumping. After the V8 has run once, you can remove your bypass, and reconnect the wires to the switch, then never need to bypass again.
That's as far as I've gotten. So if that doesn't solve it for you, then I hope someone else will help us find the correct solution.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

The fuel pump primes when the key is in the on position. And while it cranks it builds oil pressure. The car was not equipped with vats.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

I dont think the 2.8 pump is putting out enough pressure. Check it with a gauge.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

I have the car the 305 is from so I'll rig the other gas tank and fuel lines up to see if that'll fire her up.
Thanks.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

The '85-'89 2.8 pumps make enough pressure and volume to idle and fast-idle the TPI 305. The 2.8 pump might not push the volume of gas required for 200 HP, but until it runs out of volume, it'll make enough pressure.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

No, that's cast right into the intake manifold, so he must've went counter-clockwise.
