I'd like to see someone put one of the last 2 engines on that list in a 3rd gen.

There's a 55 chev in Australia with a Merlin engine in it and it's street legal. Only makes around 3000 hp.

Re: Engine Dimensions for off beat swaps

It used to be the concept of swapping was to shoe horn anything.Thank god we have evolved from those caveman days. For the most part, the harder it was,the more expensive it got.But a approach we could fit anything into anything.

So coming from those yrs background, with the right money and you finding this engine,I promise I could swap this engine in your Thirdgen:

Re: Engine Dimensions for off beat swaps

That engine looks like two GMC 305 V6 engines put together. Those engines are not that hard to come by. You can get them from about a 1961 to 1971 GMC light duty pickups and the 351 V6 engine you could get in the medium duty trucks. Those look like the 305's to me. I worked on one in a 1968 half ton GMC a few years ago. Only half of that picture, though!

Re: Engine Dimensions for off beat swaps

You just made my day (early morning) with this link. For an engine swap into my '84 F-41, with a '78 Cad. Coup Deville's 425, I bought back the '78, which I sold for $900. to a buddy in 2006, last September for $300. just for the engine.
The '84 already had a 350 swap, when I bought it in 2002, but it smoked and needed a ring job/engine rebuild, it had racing wheels, 10" on the front, 12" slicks on the rear. And all four shocks leaked, and it needed brake pads, ( this was an 18 year old's main chick mobile, before he went into the Navy, His Dad sold it to clear the driveway!) I drove it home for $950. and with the TH700R, burned rubber at each stop light with too heavy a foot on the gas pedal.
Anyway I'll rebuild the 425 for street/strip, with new Cam's, solid roller rockers/lifters, Elderbrock ported high intake, 750 cfm 4 bbl carb, port-polished heads, Headers, duel exhaust.

Re: Engine Dimensions for off beat swaps

There is a Caddy site if you google it.They do have tons of torque, but a very limited rpm range(4,000 to 4500) unless you mod the top end.The good guy heads and cam and kit are expensive.

When you start your thread for this, please take pictures of the motor mount setup and oil pan that you use, thanks!

Good luck!
