any opinions on engines?

I am attending wyotech in west sacramento in august and im brangin my baby charlotte (my camaro)

Im not satisfied with my stock 305 and im willing to drop some serious cash into her...
what i want to do is have a daily driver that doesnt have ridiculous horsepower, but can burn any honda that trys to step up at a redlight, i want around the same gas mileage. so far i've decided on a t56 swap because im a fan of the 6 speed ss that i drove a few years ago... also im debating on what to do with the engine.

the options are:

I want to do a 327 vortec swap. that will get me about 350 hp/ 370torque (estimation based on engine specs from an 07 vortec) and the same gas mileage as long as my foot is out of the gas...

or...

keep the 305 and put 327/350 vortec heads on it... im not sure how that would work but from what im finding it would definately add around 90 hp at least... has anyone done a swap like this, and if so how did it work out...

opinions on gearing in the rear is requested too...

let me know if im being a dumb @ss or missing something... ive been into cars for about 4 years and into camaros ever since i had my first 95 v6... so i know more than the average bear but not as much as i would like to know...

thanks a bunch to any responses,

-erik.

I second this. Takes very little work to get plenty of power for most street enthusiasts. Its also sooooooo extremely common to do these swaps today that most any place can tune it.

yeah but i just dont feel the ls1... everyone has it and i would like to be a bit more unique also i hear the 350 freakin blows on gas... with the 327 vortec swap it would be fuel injected and get about the same mpg or better

Re: any opinions on engines?

the ls series engines are just more efficient, and with efficiency comes power. wish i had done an ls series motor instead of my 350.>>>> 350 is still on the stand at this point.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...o-results.html This is why I should've done the LS1. I'm looking to make this kind of power with my LT1, with a lot more work and money.

When I say LS1 I mean any LS series engine. Its an idiosyncracy that I have been unable to shake. My bad.

My father and I are in the process of swapping a 5.3L and 4L60E into his 67 elcamino so I definately feel the LM7 swap.

Call it a 5.3 like everyone else here does.

Saying 327 everyone automatically thinks you are talking about a old skool 327 SBC

Re: any opinions on engines?

Ls1 swaps are only common on here. I know of no one around me with one. Great power, drivability, mpgs, reliablilty, and how easy it is to make power were enough positives to me. If you really want to save some dough though, buy a 6.0 and do some mild mods. P&P, mild cam, bolt ons and youll be knocking down the door of 450rwhp!
