TBI with ECM or Carburator

Hi
I have a TBI 305 engine. I wanting to do a build. Unfortunately I don't know enough about the TBI and the ECM.
What set up, carburetor or TBI with computer, will put out better numbers overall? Assuming I do intake, cam, and headers.
Basically, do I keep the computer and do the intake, cam, and headers with my current TBI or do I get a carburetor that has a higher CFM rating?
Thanks
Another option is get a 350. Do intake, cam, headers. Put it in my car, get a new chip for the ECM and anything else required for the swap THEN, put my old TBI unit on top? Will that put out good/respectable numbers? Will the TBI unit keep up? Or go Carburator with this option?

Re: TBI with ECM or Carburator

I would recommend TBIchips.com. He is very helpful with the info, and can do a mail order chip for your car. If it ever needs a retune, he will do it for free. I had a hot chip programmed for my truck, and then I did a mild build after that. He reimbursed me the value of my chip towards the custom chip. He also does TPI.

Re: TBI with ECM or Carburator

Is carburetor the way to go? is it where i am going to get the most out of my build?
Do i go with the current 305 engine that is in my car now? will sticking with the current engine reduce electrical problems down the road?
do i keep the computer or go carburetor?
i am having trouble making these decisions, otherwise doing the build and making the parts list is easy.

Re: TBI with ECM or Carburator

its your own personal preference no one can make the decision for you as far as the 305 goes i wouldnt build it id just go with a 350 and if you do all the electrical right then you shouldnt have any problems just do alot of research and talk to everyone you can but the decision is ultimately yours

Re: TBI with ECM or Carburator

im not gonna lie thats not bad for some 305s but you said you was wanting to do a build and even they said if your building something go with the 350 but if your really intent on the 305 then i wish you the best of luck and keep us posted

Re: TBI with ECM or Carburator

I would say stay with FI for drivability. wiring is not an issue if it already is TBI. just put a 350 under it, the truck TBs can be found everywhere.
