need help on my 350

I bought my 88 iroc and the guy told me the engine was out of a truck and it was a 350. i pulled it and it is a 350 tbi from a 96+. I just need to know if this will work for the 383 stroker i plan on building?

Re: need help on my 350

A 96 or newer should be a roller cam.Depending on the condition of the engine it should be a good choice. Now before you take it apart, aleast do a compression test to start making some basic decisions on what you have to work with.A leakdown test to follow. Don't make the mistake to be in a hurry to take it apart not knowing what's there. That will come back to you ten fold during the build up.

The same case for find a rotating assembly.Don't be in a hurray to buy a package deal.Rest assured they are a deal for very good reasons in that inherently had to have weak links in some of the parts. And they do. If you find yourself coming up short for a better crank as a example, save up more money. You going to find a difference of only $200 to $300 is huge in what you get. I am saying this from tons of see this brand name. Eagle is junk parts.

Take your time, ask questions here,do it once and do it right.

How did you determine that?
What is the block casting number at rear of engine?

Re: need help on my 350

talk to a good local machinist to find out what you will need for your particular block.. it's gonna need machine work for what you are planning, anyways, so you might as well start plotting and planning with them now before you waste a bunch of money on a bunch of stuff that you don't need and wind up with an engine you don't like.

Re: need help on my 350

The biggest wide path you can give to any machinists is the tests I told you to do before dis-assembly.That gives him(me) the current condition of the engine he is working on and what to look at that. It helps. Do those tests....................

Again-take your time, don't be in a hurry,do it right the first time.Ask questions!!!.

A example of info of interest given to me to machine a block would be you found during a compression test one cylinder alot lower than the others. I would dial bore check that one closer to see if it going to clean up at .030 or if it would need more than that. Also nothing gets bored unless the pistons are in the hands of the machine shop to finish size the bore to the pistons your going to use. That is important!!!.
