350 TBI swap. New member
Hello kids. I just signed up today. I have been reading a lot on this site and All I can say is wow! Lots of good info and good people.
Little about me and what I am doing.
I came back on R&R (was active Army now a contractor) and found a 1991 RS Camaro and had to buy her. All factory not a single bolt on, no nothing just pure GM. The car is spotless and almost perfect. The 305 runs great, no smoke no noise no nothing. Even got a solid 24 MPG on the way home (700 mile trip one way). 5 speed and T tops and a open rear diff.
I am having second thoughts on installing a 350 but I think I can do all I want and no one will know the better. I want to keep it looking factory. Just bolt on things like rear arms, steering bar, sway bars and all that.
My thoughts are installing a roller 350 4 bolt using a comp Z28 cam and edelbrock performer heads (paint it all black to look factory). I have seen here that the TBI GM intake flows very close to the same as the edelbrock TBI manifold so I will be using the stock Intake. I am thinking of installing the edelbrock headers so I can keep all the air tubes and intake heater tube, but... the car is so stock it might be a shame.
Any ideas?
I have had a ton of them (third gens) way way back in High school and back then I would not blink on chopping in a engine and headers and cut a hole in the hood. Well I am glad I am out of that stage of my life.
Here are a few pictres of the car.. I only had 2 days with her before locking her in a storage unit and flying back. Also one my hot rod I drive around here at work. She a beast lol

do you have to pass emissions in Wisconsin? if so I'd be careful, if not go as far as you want 91 RS's are real common, I got two of them now!!

No testing where I live. Only one county in WI has smog testing. So I can go buck crazy if I wish to.
But I want to keep her looking 100% factory. Just want a little more power. 170 HP is a tad low in my book for a car like that

Welcome to thirdgen.org, and thank you for your service.
In the TBI forum, there is a sticky that discusses a budget 350 swap. I'd recommend you read it over and see if that isn't more to your liking than what you proposed here.

Well I have started to collect parts even tho I am still half way around the world. So far I have got UMI caster camber plates, wounder bar, lower front control arms, rear control arms, panhard bar, GM aluminum drive shaft Moser axles, 3.73 gears. rear girdle cover and yukon locker, sub frame connectors, tunnel mount torque arm, sway bars front and rear, HO GM dual snorkel air cleaner and a set of blue tikico shocks and struts. I will replace the brakes when i get home. I will just be getting Autozone (or who ever) stock replacement parts with a good set of shoes and pads. i do not race it so that should be fine.
On to the engine next. I will be building the 305 for it (just because no one really does) I will be getting Trick flow heads and a come EFI cam.
I will be using EBL. I would like to use the stock TBI unit and install the 18 PSI spring and install the TPI fuel pump.
Does it sound that i am on the right track?
Any input on parts is welcome.

you will want the edelbrock intake, the factory one drops out in the higher RPMs. I did a 350 TBI with 083 heads and LT4 hotcam in my truck. It really needed more air.
You must have checked out TBI chips already? He is very helpful.

I do think that is who i talked to. I was going to have him burn a chip but from what I have seen its very hard to burn a chip and not see the car. The EBL seems the only real way to go and not have to bother with chips.
I do also have to get a set of hearers and Y pipe. I have seen the listing before but for the life of me I cant find it.
if anyone knows the part number for the shorty headers and y pip kit that would be super.

If you are considering building up a 305, check out Fast355's 356RWHP 310 buildup: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...tpi-310-a.html
I know it's a TPI, but still worth a look.

Welcome to the boards and thanks for your service. The car looks great and I understand your need for a little more go power but as a former Wisconsinite, I just wanted to let you know that there are 7 counties that now require emmissions testing...Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Washington and Waukesha...and I'm sure that more are coming. Good luck with your car and keep us posted.
