98 350 will it work?

So my friend has a fully dressed vortec 350 out of a 98 pickup... Was wondering if it would easily drop in my 86 trans am... Right now I have the LB9 TPI... I will be getting the vortec base plate and will be changing out the cam as well... I have a friend that is going to do the tune..also the inj. Will be swapped out as well.. Will this work?

When it comes to an engine swap, you can put nearly anything you like its, its just the conversion that's the truly difficult part. It should all bolt up perfectly fine, transmission, mounting brackets, but from there its the engine computer and wiring that you have to work at. I dont know everything that you would need for this, but it will work, you just have to be willing to go a bit farther than siimply dropping the engine in and starting it up. Hope this helped a bit! Good luck!

I was hopping I get the vortec tpi base plate.... I'm getting a new cam, and 24lb inj but I would think everything should be a swap in and it should run... I have a friend that will tune to my new mods so I should have no problem.

I've heard that the LT4 cam is very good with the sbc. - don't know how true that is though

Re: 98 350 will it work?

Double check the oil pan size just to be safe. Whatever my 97 motor came with has a 6qt pan on it. Not sure if it came with the motor or was installed later, but it could cause some exhaust issues. Just a heads up. Easy fix.

As far as the cam goes, better have the guides cut. That is a lot of lift for stock vortecs and not sure if you can get there with those springs included in that kit. Might want to consider screw in studs at the same time.

I dont know about the springs/retainers and how much clearance they will give you with the vortec heads. Im not saying they wont work, they obviously are matched for the cam, but its the heads that might be a problem. Just do some research on them. I dont know if they will or if they wont work. Might have issues with clearance between the guides and the retainers. Just got to look into it.
