Need help camaro buds
Need help camaro buds
My friend is rebuilding my 305 engine. Got the pistons mixes up cause he got wasted. Which I don't mind except the pistons is mixed up. Does it matter which pistons go in the cyclinder. If you have any ideas or specification charts would be helpful thankyou

I am no expert, but I do think it would matter due to each cylinder wearing differently. However a new set of rings may cure any issues, but like I said, I am no expert.

Yes if the rods are not getting the big ends resized, and if bores are not getting honed, the rods and pistons must go back in the same hole the came out of.
I don't mean to step on any toes or hurt any feelings.... But.
If he was not smart enough to mark each rod, piston, and main cap... IMHO he is not smart enough to rebuild the engine.
I have always used a cheap $20 steel number stamp set. Before I remove a rod cap, that rod and cap gets stamped with the correct number (pick the right number stamp, hold it to the metal, hit stamp with hammer... You have a permanent number on part)
Do the same with main caps as well

I would go with Night rider327, comment. If certain things are not done right in a engine rebuild, havoc will occur in a short period of time. An cost more in the long run.

BTW check and be careful which way the rods and pistons go back into the bores.
The rods are not the same on each side of the big end. One side is beveled and one side is flat.. The beveled side goes towards the crank, the flat sides goes against each other..
Some pistons will also have a dot or mark, or arrow that must point towards front of engine.
