T56

I found a 97 Trans Am with a T56 in it. Are the 97 T56's the same as the ones what are on the LS1's? I can get it for $100 out of a junkyard but I wasn't sure if they are the same or if it would bolt up to a LS1. Can someone point me in the correct direction? I've done a few searches but have yet to find a definite answer.

Re: T56

Uh, you did.

As long as it's a 94-97 trans., it needs a different input shaft, front adapter plate, proper installation of those 2, and a bellhousing.

Re: T56

Definitely buy it! You could swap it over to fit an LS based engine or sell it for a profit

Re: T56

No it is not the same. No it does not really bolt up.

No it doesn't make the slightest bit of sense to "adapt" it.

On the other hand...

Yup, buy it, and trade it for the one you need. BY FAR the cheeeeeeeeeepest way to come up with the right thing for the least $$$$, given the price of the LT1 one.

Re: T56

Each of the 3 parts are roughly $200ea, so he'd have $7-800 wrapped up in the trans. Consider that vs most LS T56's are $1500-1800. I think converting is a good course of action

Re: T56

Considering it can be "converted" it FOR FREE, or possibly even AT A PROFIT by some other means, I'd classify buying all those parts as ... kinda .... ummmmm ..... not so much of A Good Idea.

Re: T56

Eh. It's tough to move an LT1 T56 compared to an LS version.

Not as tough as finding a 240 Nissan owner who is actually a paying customer, lol.
I build them; $100 is absolutely worth it for an LT version. To flip, to build, to part out.
